Zooming issue in PRS-T1

With some image-based pdf files, when you try zooming the text the screen goes blank. Here is an example of one such pdf.

Can anyone confirm (or infirm) this?

I wouldnt know. But I am starting to believe that PDF issues are par for the course with eink. Its either going to be the device or doucument that is having issues. In essence e-ink readers (6" or under especially) just are not good for pdf's.

I gave up displaying PDFs, it just isn't worth the hoops through which you have to jump...

You guys are pretty cynical. Up until now I've had great success with many PDFs from Google Books. It's possible to get the job done with good software. Now that the PRS-T1 has been rooted, I'd like to see someone write a really good Android app designed specifically for displaying PDFs on a small screen.

Just tried it and I have the same problem as well. It seems to work if you only zoom so much that the text still fits on the screen. If I zoom further the text disappears after the screen flash.

Looks like a software limitation. I emailed Sony and asked them to fix it in a firmware upgrade. We all know that's not likely to happen. This is Sony after all.

The best fix would be alternative software for a rooted prs-t1. For pdfs, we have EbookDroid, but it doesn't have the same functionalities as Sony's softare (ie. no double and triple-column split, for example).

UPDATE: Sony seems to have addressed this issue in a firmware update. Now, instead of the screen going blank, it just refuses to zoom any further. A lot of good that does.

There is a new app called Orion Viewer, designed for e-ink devices, that does everything Sony's software does (except autocropping, but I hope the developer will add this feature soon).

In many ways, Orion is superior to Sony's software. It is more configurable, it has some extra features, and can be used with popular dictionary apps such as ColorDict and Fora, which means being able to use custom dictionaries.
