epub books on the fire..im a newb
Hi, so I'm trying to figure out, if its possible, to download epubs to read on my fire. I love the thing but man is it getting pricey as I read about 200 pages a day. I'm not to great with technology and to be honest this is the first forums group I have ever belonged to. Anybody out there that can help me our would be great.

Amazon has hundreds of thousands of free books and, if you join Amazon Prime, you can borrow up to one book per month from their lending libary which otherwise would have charges.

Thanks, I do that now but my friend googles at epub bud and the books that I just spent over $100 dollars on in the last six weeks and he got every single one for free. My problem is I just don't know what I am doing.lol. I do read a lot of free and cheap stuff too and have discovered some fantastic stuff in doing so. I was just surprised at the titles he is getting for free and would love to be able to accomplish that as well...oh, is it legal?

No, it almost certainly is NOT legal. It sounds like your friend is download bootleg copies of copyrighted books from illegal sharing sites.
No one here will help you do that. We support the authors we read and we believe in their right to get paid for their work. |

You can also check out Kindle and epub books from you local county public library using their online login with your library card.
The Fire does not read epub natively so you need to install a reader that reads epubs |

Yeah, I don't want to steal the books I just wasn't aware if there was some stupefy of sharing site that was legal. Up until a month ago I was a paper guy only so I'm new to the ebook world but loving it.

You can get tons of books for free. Legally. One way to is watch the deals forum here books are always being given away by Amazon, B&N, Sony and other places. Another way is through your local Library. Libraries now let you checkout ebooks. ![]() Now for how to read anything on the Fire. For epubs you can install a epub reader app. There is Mantano, Aldiko and Nook are the most popular. There are all kinds of places to buy cheap books. Like Fictionwise when they have coupons going or Smashwords, Baen. Most of these are DRM free. Amazon and B&N are another places and then there is Kobo who also has coupons. Ebooks don't have to be expensive. My advice is read the expensive books from your library using Mantano, Kindle or Aldiko. Buy the smaller books through the different online stores spending on the best price. Now what I do is get the Big 6 books from my library. The big six being the publishers who have fixed pricing unless the book is on sale by them. I buy mostly from the small guys or those who self publish these are call Indies. You can read any format on the Fire. It works just like any other tablet. ![]() As for your friend he probably gets his books from the darknet. We frown upon that here. I currently use a Sony reader which uses epub documents. I am looking at the Fire and obviously have a ton of books that I have already purchased in epub or pdf and then converted to epub. I use calibre to convert books. Can I use that to covert them to a format usable by the Fire?

Mantano is the best epub reader. As SCION once said it's near perfect.
![]() I know I can just load library books onto it through ADE. It has collections that the Kindle reader lacks and so many more features. Mantano is working on a sync feature too just like the Kindle has. ![]() |

Library books for Kindles
Quote:
Overdrive or other software is not required. It loads directly into any Kindle device. However, one only has 21 days to read it. The problem with library ebooks is that most of the historical and biographical ebooks I like to read are not available at my library since they are probably too controversial. The few which are available have waiting lists of up to 5 other people. They only have 1 or 2 copies available for eRental. Thus, I pay for most of my ebooks other than the very few I rent from the Amazon Library for Prime customers. I also have a Sony eReader for the very rare ebooks which Amazon may not carry. There is no need to convert from Sony to Amazon format or back if one owns both types of eReaders. Last edited by sirmaru; 01-28-2012 at 04:39 PM. |
