Battery goes awfully fast

I bought a new reader in end of November. At first, the battery held for a couple of weeks, now it seems that it runs out in about a week.
I do connect my reader to a PC several times a week to sideload new books. Can it be the reason?
I thought a computer would charge the battery, not drain it.
The reader is not rooted and I use it every day for at least an hour.
What should I do do to prevent it from happening?

Be sure you have the wireless features turned off when you aren't using them.

I do not use wireless at all. I mostly sideload books in self formatted PDF. So far it has not given me any other troubles mentioned on this forums.
I wonder what I am supposed to do about the battery life.
When the battery is fully charged and, when plugged, shows 100%, when unplugged even for ten seconds it begins charging again. The red light goes back on and it takes a while until it goes off.

This is pretty normal behaviour and no reason to be worried (mine does that, too, and the battery drowning is at an ok level)

Are you using an SD card? (uses some extra battery, but not that much)

Check, if your the file system is ok, your win computer should tell you, that something is wrong, when plugging in. It normally offers to fix it.

You also could try a factory reset.

In both cases, backup your books first! Be aware, that you might loose your settings, browser favorites, ADE registration, etc.

My PRS 600 does not do it. If it is charged - it is charged.
I do not use a SD card. 1.3 gigs of memory is plenty for me. I have about 70-75 books on my machine and I have not read all of them yet.
I will try the factory reset. Thank you.

I've been trying, off and on, to get a handle on the REAL battery capacity of the T1, with no luck.

Recharging on a weekly basis isn't new to me, I like to read a lot!

It seems likely that reading PDFs might consume more power than reading ePubs.

When I read ePubs with my standard settings(font: Really No 2, size: 2), I approximate that I do about 1.4 to 1.5 actual page turns per whatever bulls### standard they use to indicate the page number. That said, I think I'm getting something around 2500 page turns per charge.

I use a wall charger and plug in when there are no bars on the battery indicator and the device has warned me not to use wifi(which is usually turned solidly OFF) plus whatever it takes to finish the book, chapter or whatever, maybe half an hour. I've not yet dared the device to tell me it's fully discharged, because I read somewhere it ain't good to completely discharge LiPo batteries(which seems to be what's in the T1).

Somewhere(I don't recall where) on the moblieread forum I read that it's better to use a wall charger than the computer.

Oops! I see you're not using a T1. In that case never mind, because I have no idea.

I have both, a T1 and 600. It looks like I will have to charge my T1 weekly.

A lot of ereaders will have the charge light come back on if you pull the plug and then plug it back in. My Kindles do this. I haven't noticed on my 950, but I haven't tried it either.

You could have a corrupted book file on the Sony. I suggest doing the factory reset and then just add a book or two that you are currently reading and see if it makes a difference. Make sure to have all of your books backed up first.

I have decided to monitor it first. I will refrain from plugging it into a computer for a while. If it drains very quickly again I will perform the factory reset.

I belive it's the Android. Sometimes my phone drains battery strangely fast. So might be related issues, don't have any ideas what causes it...

I use mine a fair bit, and I'm almost sorry to say, comparing our experiences, my T1 battery seems awesome , miles better that my 650.
I only wall-charge, on usually two bars, definitely as soon as down to one. I never switch it off, always use Sleep Mode.
If you are using the PC to download etc.. it shouldn't have any effect, that only happens - unless it's a dud battery - if it's left to do a full charge on a computer, and then not often, but it can fully discharge it overnight, for example.
You cannot overcharge it, so wall-charge it overnight, give it a good blast.
And - silly I know, I'm sure you're right - but are you sure the wi-fi is off ? ie not ticked, and the "close wifi down" is ticked ?

One way to try to get it better is to run it dry a few times and charge fully up. Just don't leave it dry.

If your T1 is rooted, you can calibrate it by removing the batterystats.bin, if it's not rooted, the next "trick" is sometimes used to calibrate the battery of an Android phone:
1. With the device on, charge it untill the red light goes out.
2. Disconnect the charger and shutdown the device.
3. Connect the charger and charge untill the light goes out.
If this takes more than about 1 minute untill the light goes out, repeat the steps 1-3.
The light should go out within about 1 minute, otherwise the stats in the bin-file don't correspond to the real battery-level.

Allways try to charge with a USB-wall-charger instead via the pc.

Last I heard from the battery experts we have on the Forum, this was not recommended best practice, as it could damage the battery and shorten its life.
I can't help thinking that there seems to be quality control problems with some batteries, 'cos generally the T1 has a very good power life.

Any battery specialists out there ?
