How to automatically remove old news?

I'm having Calibre load news feeds onto my Kindle Fire. In the Schedule News - Advanced (for each feed), I've told it to keep at most 1 issue. But it never removes them from the Kindle; I have to go in and do that manually from the Documents folder of the Fire.

Is there an additional step I need for configuring it?

No!
Actually Yes! Tell the user that "Calibre never Automatically deletes content, News or other types".
You can delete content from the Home menu (at least on a K4NT) with 3 clicks: Left, OK Confirm (OK)

Ah. Thanks. I didn't understand the control.

But that only deletes one at a time, and then you have to refresh the Newsstand widget to get to the next one.

Perhaps I'll provide an enhancement to Calibre.

If the device is connected by USB, you should be able to delete from the Device view
