Way to sort biographies chronologically?

I've decided I want to continue a reading program I started w/ my kids (I was reading them the biographies of U.S. Presidents in chronological order) for myself, by reading biographies which interest me _in chronological order_ --- is there an easy / elegant way to do this?

The best thing I could work out was to put the list of books into a spreadsheet and then manually add columns for birth year, death year, a calculated one for lifespan, then sort on the calculated lifespan column, then birth year --- but that's a lot of manual work --- could this be done as a plug-in in Calibre?

Add them as a "series". Use a metadata plugboard to append the series name and number to the book title.
