yahoo messenger. please tell me your experience

I use YM only to communicate with work. I want to use it on the Fire as that is where l spend most of my time these days.

In order to do that, l need two things:

1. I need to change the default "I'm mobile" to a custom status

2. I need an audible alert for new messages.

Did not get too far on the site. Has anyone done this successfully? As a note, my contacts' status messages are not visible on the Fire either.

I've not used the straight YIM client, rather I usually use one of the bigger IM apps like ebuddy or imo since I have 2 chat programs I use for work. It's easier for me to have them all in the same place instead of having two programs switching back and forth.

Ugh, yes, that would be the sensible thing to do!!!! But it's my employer's choice, not mine, so I'm stuck with it. Thanks though.

Are you saying you're forced to use the YIM client, or that you're forced to to use Yahoo Messenger? If it's the latter, you can use any of the cross-network apps since they work with Yahoo Messenger. Just use your Yahoo credentials and they'll work just fine.
