Question Series metadata

Quick question if I may.

I am trying to add series metadata to some .mobi ebooks but am having trouble getting calibre to remember the changes I make. I (eventually) figured out that after editing the metadata you need to reconvert the ebook to make the changes stick but then it gets a bit confusing.

After reconverting (.mobi to .mobi) I am trying to save the files to disc. This gives me two new files. a .mobi and a .original_mobi so far so good.

My confusion arises because it looks like the changes to the metadata have been saved in the .original_mobi file rather than the .mobi

Surely this cannot be right? What am I doing wrong? All I want it one .mobi file with the series metadata saved properly.

Thanks

Calibre auto saves.
STD is for external disks (devices)
_original is what it started out as (just in case ) ,after a same format conversion.

That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that after the reconversion and save, I deleted the book from my calibre library.

When reimporting from the saved files, the new .mobi did not have the series information stored in it whereas the .original_mobi did.

This probably wouldn't be such a problem if I used calibre as my library manager rather than just a metedata editor.

Am still very confused about what I am doing wrong

You need do nothing after conversion. It is all done. Ready to send to your reader. The Mobi should contain whatever the Library metadata had at conversion time. (IIRC, you do need it to include a jacket)

The MOBI format has no support for series metadata.
