Suggest device
I have never owned or used a digital reader. I am thinking about getting one, to take advantage of all the features. My requirements are:
Judging from the majority (for instance, searching Google for "digital reader"), it would seem that I should get a Kindle; on the other hand, I just read the Calibre FAQ and saw a recommendation for SONY readers (because they handle collections). So, I would like to get some advice from those who know better:
Thanks in advance for any wisdom shared and best regards. |

I can't answer all your questions, but I'll make a start.
1. Based on requirement 4 (sourcing from Amazon), I'd say the Kindle is best for you. I think requirements 1-3 are pretty similar for Sony and Kindle. 2. Sorry, not a Kindle user. No doubt somebody better informed will let you know shortly. 3. See my previous answer ![]() 4. No. 5. Probably not a relevant question in light of the answer to 4. Hope you find something that is right for you ![]() Last edited by Bilbo1967; 01-11-2012 at 04:58 PM. |

Bilbo, thanks for answering. You are right; for the sake of an argument, let's forget about sourcing from Amazon. In this scenario, what reader would you recommend?

You should visit the "What should I by thread" https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=123 here at MR
Then com back to check in devices (search) for Model ,=> Calibre interaction issues Then ask I vote for readers that support (Adobe) EPUB well (Rules out Kindles) as that format allows finer control than Mobi and many public libraries lend books compatible. IMHO all the rest is personal taste ![]() |

The advice from theducks is pretty sound as well, although nothing can beat getting a hands-on look at the readers if at all possible. |

Hands on
Great point.
Really put you hands on the device and read, flipping pages. How does that work for YOU. Are the buttons in the correct place for long time reading (button models)? If touch screen, does that work well for you or do you end up fustrated because you did not hold you face (and hands) right for smooth action ![]() |
