I was in a Sony store a couple weeks ago and asked about the 700. The man behind the counter said as far as he was aware there were no plans to sell it here in the UK. Perhaps they are waiting to see how well the 505 sells. As lilac_jive says, 'no one knows yet'.

One thing which may prevent the PRS-700 from ever being sold in the UK is that it does not have a user-replaceable battery. Recent EU regulations require that batteries be removeable to allow correct recycling.

Hi angelwithwings and welcome to the Forum. If you can't get a 700 in the UK, the 505 is not a bad alternative.

My understanding is that this doesn't really need to be required until 2012.. and even then it is not so straight forward.

After all, they sell the 505 which also doesn't have a user replaceable battery.

When will the Sony Reader 700 be available in UK

Hi everyone,

I have written to sony in the Uk to ask when the 700 will be available in the Uk.
They said they do not know yet. I think it might appear here after 18 months.
I have written to a company who are trying to sell them in the Uk. (They are not sure if they can be charged in the Uk)
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=REG&A=details
approx £279.98 / $400 charged to your credit card
Have written to B&H video to ask them if i bought one would i be able to get a 3year gauranteee that was valid for repair in the uk. Will let you know when i get an answer from them.
Not sure if i would want to wait for 18 months to get the 700. Cant be sure but thats a guess on how long it took to arrive in the states. So i might buy the 505 soon.

If history is anything to go by, the 700 will be released in the UK approximately 2-3 months before Sony comes out with their next version of the Reader.
