Help for Kobo Wifi

Apparently I am the go-to person in my family for technical questions, even if I know nothing about the hardware having a problem!

My 16 year old sister (who has a Kobo WiFi) just sent me a facebook message saying this:

Quote:
my kobo is seriously screwing up, its plugged in but it's only showing a white screen, as it is plugged in its light is purple, when it isnt plugged in its light is blue, now the light just turned red, now purple again and i have pushed the power button and the "arrow" button, i dont know what to do
If I was with her I would play with it to see what I could do, but not being with her makes it hard to have any idea even where to start looking. Does anyone know what is happening?

Thanks.

You could have her try a basic reset to see whether that revives it. Here are the instructions: http://kobo.intelliresponse.com/inde...l+Kobo+eReader

Thanks! I did send her the instructions for the reset, but the ones I found weren't nearly as detailed. She said she tried them but I'll make sure she did it right.

Sigh - neither of the basic reset methods worked for her.

I assume she tried the pinhole on the back to reset as well. If not try that first but she may need to do a factory reset. Turn off the device and then turn it back on while holding the home button.

Rarebird, your factory reset instruction will not work as she has a Kobo WiFi and your instruction is for the Touch.

LauraPony, if the eReader is still under warranty, your sister should send an e-mail to help@kobobooks.com describing the problem and what you have done to try to fix it so that the return process can commence.

Thanks. I've told her to email. Is there a way to do a factory reset like Rarebird suggested without being able to access the menu?

Also, could this have anything to do with it not being ejected from a computer properly? The last thing that was done to it before this happened was that books were being added to it from calibre.

Thanks!

Laura; try this procedure supplied by one of the Kobo developers

Just have to point out that the developers instructions were the same as mine Joe lol. My wife has the wifi model and that's how I was told to do a factory reset on hers.

I noticed it was very similar. Thanks! I appreciate everyone's help. I wish I had knowledge in this subject so I could help my sister out more, but I feel like I've given her some good advice thanks to the tips here.
