I wonder if books will become like Blu-Ray? By Hardback get ebook free.

I was looking in TESCO today when I noticed that a Blu-Ray disc was offering with it. - Blu-Ray version of movie - DVD version of the movie - Downloadable version of the movie Which made me wonder if Hardback books may start to offer this too. Would be a great idea as my wifey is a huge Pratchett fan and it will the day she stops buying his book on the day of release Satan will be going to work in a snow plow. |

If it does ever happen... it will be because someone held the publishers down and wet-willied them or noogied them into submission. |

Here's hoping they get a knee in the top of their backs to stop'em wriggling.

That is already the case with many Technical books. Buy the expensive Paper book and get a free PDF or EPub of the book. I would love to see this happen with MMBs but I would be shocked if it did.

It would certainly reduce publishers cries of piracy.

I hope it won't be just like Blu-Ray. Because that would mean we HAVE to buy the hardcover to get the ebook. Which defeats the purpose. Would be nice to have the option, though.

That would seem to be a major win for publishers; no ebook release without a DTB purchase. Given the increasing popularity of ebooks I doubt - and certainly hope - it won't happen. |

I believe Baen does something like this with their new release hardback books. They include a CD-ROM with free ebooks on it. Usually ones by the same author or in the same series. I think it's a great idea myself.
