I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for but I will offer some suggestions.
Voice Search by Google: http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/app/voice-search Voice Search can be used for more than just searching. It also integrates perfectly with many keyboards, the best of which is the Hacker's Keyboard (http://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/ - Use Downloads Tab). To enable an alternate keyboard: - Enable the input method in Settings - Language & Keyboard. Long press (press and hold) an open text box and select Input Method. You may also be interested in Voice Text: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25986798/com....voicetext.apk Vlingo is a virtual office assistant that offers many popular voice options: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7cNlIeQNl8 http://www.1mobile.com/vlingo-virtua...ant-68847.html Other Apps / Info you may be interested in: Talk to Me Cloud: Real-time speech to speech translator for Android. Speech recognition in 7 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese. Speak a phrase in one of the 7 languages and it will speak it back in the language of choice (many languages supported). I was absolutely blown away as to how accurately the App recognized English. You can actually speak a sentence (where is the nearest train station etc.) and it will translate it back in voice and text. Amazing. You MUST download and install Voice Search first and have Wi-Fi access for this program to work. There is also a classic version which does not Wi-Fi access to use. http://www.flaviuapps.com/ - Use the Downloads Tab. iTranslate: http://www.amazon.com/Sonico-Mobile-...5689323&sr=1-6 or http://www.1mobile.com/itranslate-97480.html The newer iTranslate version from 1Mobile can use the Extended Text to Speech App (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25986798/TTS...20Extended.apk). You can also purchase different TTS language packs which sound more natural instead of computerized (e.g. SVOX) for use in other Apps. Android PICO Installer Language Pack. This is a TTS English language pack. (Not an App. Works with other Apps like ezPDF reader. That's right, ezPDF reader will read PDFs. Does a pretty good job I might add). Download directly using your Pocket Edge: http://areacellphone.com/2010/01/dow...age-installer/ Last edited by obsessed2; 01-04-2012 at 07:26 PM. |

thanks for being so accommodating with the thorough response and links. i LOVE the hackers keyboard's full layout on portrait! how do you integrate this with speech though? I'm guessing you need to add the button some how?

I really don't have a favorite but I lean more towards Voice Search because it is very accurate.
You can make Voice Search work with the Android keyboard by selecting Settings --> Language & Keyboard --> Android Keyboard --> Voice Input --> On Main Keyboard. I prefer the Hacker's Keyboard because it integrates Voice Search better across multiple Apps versus the Android keyboard. I have never tried Flex T9, but it has high reviews on Amazon and is reported as compatible with the Entourage Edge - http://www.amazon.com/Nuance-Communi...5810226&sr=1-9 Last edited by obsessed2; 01-05-2012 at 07:53 PM. |
