Hi multiprose!

Which is right for you depends on where and for what you'll use it. There are several minor differences (stylus in different location, removable battery on EE, 2 USB ports on EE, etc.), and the smaller PE adapts better to the Ermine upgrade.

There are threads in this forum comparing the two, although you might have trouble finding them. I have both, and I use them both daily. I use my EE more (on it now), but if I could only have one -- I was going to say it would be the PE (more versatile), but if I get a Galaxy Note that would partly replace the PE and I would still want my EE as my primary ereader and light gaming device.

Good luck deciding!!

It really depend on what you are going to use it for. For reading papers, textbooks, etc(specially if they have illustrations, equations etc and in pdf format) the EE is just better since you may be able to see the whole page at once. The problem is that it is more bulky and heavy.

I still find my self using the EE whenever I want to do some serious reading of mathematical documents. Having two screen is just great to be able to see two different pages at the same time or do a derivation in the journal while having the pdf in the other screen.

The PE is better if you are going to read epubs, or text only documents since the screen size doesn't matter. The PE is a lot lighter. Unfortunately, there are not that many technical textbooks or article in epub format. And even if they were, epub does not store annotations (annotations are stored in a separate database) so the functionality is not as good as pdf. I just prefer to keep the annotations together with the original document so that I can see them in other devices (e.g., in a PC).

I agree with Filark that the galaxy note seems like a great replacement for the PE. We'll see if AT&T brings it and at what price...

As for the EE so far I haven't seen any replacements. There are just no new double screen devices out there. And even worst there are still no pdf readers in android that are able to split the screen and show 2 pages at the same time or the pdf and another app to take notes. I guess the best replacement for the EE would be a windows tablet. Perhaps something like the Fujitsu Q550.

To add a little weight on the side of the full size edge. I started out with the kindle DX because of the screen size and my need to read PDF manuals. When I discovered the edge I went for the full size one, again because of the ability to read PDF manuals - in fact it is much better at it than the DX.

I have seen one of the pocket edges and there is no way I would buy one while I have my EE and if that broke down I think I would try and see if it was possible to get a replacement from Russia where they atr running trials of them for educational use.

For some people the weight of the EE (1.45 kg - 3.2 lb) could be a problem but with all things I carry about to various jobs I don't notice it. In fact in a number of situations I don't have to carry my large laptop so it is a nett weight reduction.

thanks guys. i decided to go with PE b/c it seems to be less problematic when updating to 2.2.

i have one big question:
you know how you can record audio with a microphone and embed them in PDFs on acrobat
*Q: natively or w/ an android app like ezreader, can the edge use it's microphone to directly record audio onto a page in a pdf file?

Congratulations on your decision to get a PE. I think you'll like it!

You might ask your question in a new thread. I have never even used the recorder, much less embedded in a PDF.

For me and my requirements, anything that doesn't have a large e-ink screen is useless - try reading a LCD screen in bright sunlight and you will see why.

I originally started out with a laptop but very quickly added a kindle DX because of its large e-ink screen. When I found out about the eDGe and the fact I could combine two units into one I bought it. It does what I want, which may not be what anyone else wants, it allows me to read manuals in bright sunlight or under other bright lighting and keep in contact with our servers over the net from any clients property. The only thing I haven't been able to use it for are things like re-imaging servers on site and that is a limitation of the Android operating system.

As a general purpose tool for my work I've not found anything to replace it.

My EE is updated with the standard Ermine. There are no alternate updates available for it yet.

On the e-ink I use the inbuilt PDF reader and use coolreader3 on the LCD.

Is it Wacom? I wasn't sure. But the stylus is key for me as well.

Yes, it has a Wacom digitizer built in - hence the need for the special stylus.
