Restarting 3-6 pages into book!!!

Sorry if this has already been covered but I'm at the end of my tether and I've only had this device for 24 hours! I loaded up 12 books using calibre, as I couldnt find a way to add books to the kobo desktop. 8 out of the 12 I loaded seem to reset the device after 3 or 6 page turns?! I deleted all books from the Touch and reconverted the Epub files just to be sure but its still happening. I really want to return the Kobo, am exhausted with it already.

When connected to a computer, the Kobo mounts as a USB drive. Have you tried dropping the files on that drive then ejecting the device?
What books are you trying to load? What format are they?

I cant seem to find the file that the books are kept on, they were originally Epub files but I had read that its a good idea to run them through calibre to remove any DRM (i think thats the phrase?)

The Kobo desktop application only accepts books purchased from Kobo web site that are in the kepub format. It doesn't read epub books. For that you'll have to load Adobe Digital Edition. Using Adobe Digital Editions you can add books to the Kobo ereader.

Ok... Couple of things..

First of all, Kobo Desktop ONLY handles books in Kobo's own format; you can NOT add ePubs to it. Books bought from Kobo will be downloaded into Kobo Desktop and then into the Touch when you connect it via USB with Kobo Desktop active.

Secondly; what firmware IS your Touch running? Hopefully it has been updated to the current firmware level (1.9.16).

Next; Calibre by itself will not remove DRM from books. For help with that you need to google for "Apprentice Alf". (The Forums mods do not permit us to discuss DRM removal on the forums, but do allow us to give broad hints as to how to find it).

Finally; have you done the Adobe Digital Edition setup (ADE)? With this in place you can sync books from ADE to the Kobo while leaving the DRM intact.

Remember how I mentioned earlier that books purchased from Kobo download into Kobo Desktop? Well.. if you go to the Kobo Books website and look at the "My Library" link, you will see all the books you have bought from Kobo, and they should have a button alongside each book to download an ePub version. This will actually download a small "ACSM" file, that when opened within ADE, download the true ePub into "My Digital Editions" in your Documents folder. This will be DRM'ed so you can either transfer it via ADE to your Touch, or, use the "Apprentice Alf" stuff to remove the DRM and add it into Calbre.

Removing DRM leaves encrypted kobo account information embedded in book telling who downloaded that book.

Which is of what significance? Remember just because people remove DRM does NOT imply at all that they are sharing that material with anybody else.

I remove DRM so that in future the books I purchase will always be available to me should something happen - like what happened with the demise of Microsoft's ebook format. I really don't care if purchase information is left in the file because I won't be uploading those books to any sharing sites.

You don't by chance have an SD card in the Kobo do you? Some people have had restart issues similar to this with books on the SD card. Not sure if that would apply to only with SD card inserted, but it's possible.
