				Apple to offer self-publishing platform

The article is brief and unsupported, but still fun to think about. This could be great for authors. http://goodereader.com/blog/tablet-s...ter-this-month L.J. [link deleted - MODERATOR] Last edited by Dr. Drib; 02-26-2012 at 06:27 AM. |

This is some exciting news, should it be true. I would wonder just what the other terms would be should one choose to with Apple as opposed to Amazon or B&N.

Given its from Apple and not a dedicated book company, it could go in any direction. On the one hand, this is a computer/gadget company and not a publishing house. On the other, well, this is the company that censored the iPad bookstore because a piece of extremely torrid erotica was at the top of the charts for several weeks. Its like that scene from The Dark Crystal where Augra asks Jenn where his mentor is, and Jen says, "He's dead." Augra's response is, "Could be anywhere then." |

This is nonsense. Apple has had a self-publishing platform from day 1 (or at least within a few months of iBooks launch), and I have used it (once). It would be nice if they improved it, however. They actually would prefer that you go through somebody else like Smashwords, as it costs them money to maintain their own platform and tools for self-publishing, while their cut is the same regardless of who submits the material (30%).
