PRS-T1 price slashed to $99

As of December 7, the PRS-T1 is on sale for 99 dollars! I just ordered the Kindle 4. At this price point, I am tempted to order this one too although I am skeptical about Sony's decision to cut prices now.

Great, Sony... not! What about all those people who paid $149 or even worse 149 EUR for a device with lots of annoying and still unfixed bugs?

They cheated me. I paid $149 for mine but they apparently omitted the bugs.

Thought I'd posted this, must've got" lost in the post" [sorry...].

Is this Sony dropping their margins, Retailers their's, or a bit of both ?

And which one is influencing the downward trend.

The Sony readers don't sell compared to Kindles and Nooks, so I'm guessing that's the main factor. The Best Buy I visited recently is probably typical. Out of all the ereaders they had on display only the T1 wasn't usable in demonstration mode. You couldn't even power it on - Best Buy's fault, of course - so the Kindles and Nooks were getting all the attention.

Well bugs or not. Thats the price you pay for being an early adopter. The nook and Kobo also dropped in price just a few months after release.

Get your 30 dollars back

If you bought it recently, you can ask for a refund. Look at amazon, apart from the black Friday cuts they kept the prices pretty steady. If you are selling a good product you don't need to keep slashing prices to beat competition. People are willing to spend provided they get a solid, error-free reader.

That's because Amazon started low to begin with. They waited until everyone else released their latest gen ereaders, then they released theirs and undercut the competition price wise. They had no reason to lower prices any further; even during Black Friday.

Still irritated that its $179 in Australia no retailer I've tried so far will budge from the RRP

In the Netherlands the price has gone up from 149 euros to 179 euros. Reason they gave was the inundations in Thailand. I don't understand how they can use this argument to raise the price in one country and at the same time drop the price completely in another.

I am really curious about Sony's ereader strategy. They phased out perfectly good but pricey pocket and daily edition models, and introduced a buggy T1.

Then every few days they slash the prices as bad press about the freezing issues mount.

They are an elite electronics brand, in some ways, second only to Apple. So it's clear that they don't slash prices to compete. If you notice, they've taken off ereaders from their home page which is really strange.

$99 =/= £129.99 which remains the UK price. I was an early adopter and as such can't really complain, but man, $99!

Sarcasm. I'm quite happy with mine at the price I paid.

Sony has to be competitive if they want market share. I like my Sony T1. It works well, none of the problems others are experiencing.
I bought mine for $150 but it went on sale for $130 during my first 30 days of purchase and Best Buy refunded me $20 without a problem.

At $99 it is a better buy than the similarly priced Kindle Touch because of the lack of commercials...in my opinion anyway.

Hi guys,

I need a quick advice. I ordered my ereader last week, and I dont even have it yet. What is the best course of action for me. Can I call Sony now and ask for a refund. How does it work?
