Protect your screen inside your book cover
I just thought to point out, that you can use the soft white spongy screen protector 'page' that came with your Vox packaging, and place it on top of the screen to sandwich it between screen and inside surface of your book cover. It will protect it from abrasion between the inside pocket flap and your screen's surface. It works well. I place that on top of the Vox, then close the book cover, and finally place a lite strength rubber band around the whole thing.....

Yes,...you can buy it for the Kobo Vox from Chapters/Indigo. I edited my O.P. with the link to the Indigo sale page.... I bought the brown one, and so far, it has not shown any wear and tear. Well built, and the insert/frame slip for your Vox is very solid. Pricey, but it really protects your unit.... Last edited by Reader Paradice; 12-14-2011 at 04:15 PM. |

I know this wasn't supposed to be a thread dedicated to reviewing the book cover, but my one complaint is that the corners aren't rounded. I had no idea that this would be important to me. But I constantly find there is a corner digging into my hand when I try to hold the Vox one handed.
Otherwise, it is a good case. I look forward to Chapters releasing some more dedicated Vox cases. |

I agree on the corners being pointy, but that's how most "real book" covers are.
I have one of those covers too, but it was a gift. I don't know if I would have shelled out $40 for one myself, but I do like it. One thing I didn't like about the cover, though, was that it hides the little indicator light in front of the on/off button. I went and drilled a hole where the light is so I could see it, but it came out kind of rough due to the covering. A good leather punch would probably have worked better. I ended up cutting out about 1/2" of the frame, but it still doesn't look so good because the plastic inside is white (ABS?). It looks like the cut edges of the frame that holds the Vox are painted with some kind of plastic lacquer, something to do in the future. |

I got the Kobo/Indigo book style cover that has the rounded edges, is soft and smooth to the touch and is spongy, but firm. I think it's designed for the Kobo Original or Wifi, so it's a bit of a tight fit, but it works great to protect my Vox and feels great in my hand when in use! I bought a second one when they went on sale for $20. to go with my new refurb. wifi...

This is the style of cover I have, but it's a red and gold old leather bound look to it. Often people mistake my vox as an actual book when it's closed. I really like it. It has a low powered magnet in it though, but it was quickly ruined just by how I hold it. I use the pouch as a hand hold.. I love the look and the style of it, and it suits my needs nicely. |

I drilled for the green LED light too, as well as to the right and just below that position---the ambient light sensor. If you don't expose that sensor, you get a false and or always-seeking light level when on AUTO BRIGHT. I used a small emery board to smooth out the drilled area. It worked quite well. |

I see it has inner pockets - a good place to keep your library card, methinks.

It does - though I must say I much preferred my old Nook cover that had an actual slot for cards or business cards. I definitely felt like my library card was more secure in that. Now I just keep it by my computer instead of in my Vox case.

It does, but that is what you don't want to bear down, and have contact with your screen. That is why I posted about using that white, square foam insert you have, of the original Vox packaging after unboxing. It's the bead on the edge of the slant flap that might come in contact with your screen and over time, abrade.

Of course, that was the one piece of packing I threw out as soon as I unpacked my Vox. However, anyone unboxing any new electronic appliances at Christmas will probably find more of the stuff. I do find that it's probably that pocket that tends to leave a slight diagonal smudge (if I look hard enough) on the screen protector that came with the Vox, but it wipes off. Perhaps once the screen protector film gets beat up and I pull it off, I'll look at some kind of padding.

Yesterday I finally removed the clear plastic screen protector film the Vox ships with. I just got annoyed seeing all the dust bubbles under the film and where it was peeling at the top right corner. The screen sure looks cleaner now, at least at first. However, the glass shows fingerprints much more than the plastic and does not wipe off cleanly without a cleaning solution. I also now notice an obvious diagonal line across the screen left by the pocket in the front cover of the "book". I usually read with the cover folded back behind the book, so the edge of the pocket accumulates oil from my hands and deposits it on the screen with the book closed. No doubt if any grit gets embedded in the edge of the pocket, it will end up scratching the screen.

Okay, my solution for the last couple of days has been to stick a Christmas card into the pocket with the back facing the screen (or turned inside-out with the inside front facing the screen). This works really well because it stays in place and I don't have to look for it when closing the book. The card is smooth and leaves no marks on the screen, whereas a plastic foam sheet might pick up grit. I clean the screen about once a day with a little Windex.
