Help putting ebooks onto T1

I have just taken delivery of my first ereader and thought that it would be easy to just go into the Sony Reader Store and download books to the T1. Unfortunately the Reader Store is not available in NZ. It is only available in the USA and Canada. I looked in Kobo to get started, but I see their ebooks are EPUB DRM, and I understand that the T1 can't read DRM. Can someone help me get started and this is becoming very frustrating. Thanks.

T1 does support drm epub. Did you authorize the T1?

If you are trying to buy stuff from Kobobooks, it should do the same thing as trying to get books from Sony Reader Store. It should pull up a login for ADE (Adobe Digital Editions). If you have an ADE account just put in your username and password. If you don't have an account there should be a link to create a new one. Once you've created a user name and password, you should be good to go with the Kobobooks.

I have created an ADE account but trying to buy books from Kobobooks it doesn't pull up a login for ADE. Perhaps the T1 doesn't recognize ADE?

There's also a wiki page about sites to get free books. Maybe you haven't tried those. Feedbooks is a good start.

ADE is installed when you authorize your reader in the Sony Store. There's no need for a separate ADE login.

In Australia and New Zealand we can not connect to the Sony Store, so we can't authorise that way. When I try to synchronise with the Reader software it goes into a loop first asking if I want to authorize the device, accepts my affirmative response then does it all again!
I have tried uninstalling the Sony Reader software and re-installing but it evidently leaves something behind, because after the re-install my library is intact.
Has anyone else in the Antipodes managed to authorise their device to read Adobe DRM books?

So does mine, and like Alex I can't do any sort of setup using the Sony store because Sony haven't opened their online store in my country.

In my case, I already had ADE on my Mac before I got the T1 and ADE was already authorised with my Adobe ID for Adobe DRM.

I can't remember if I had to do anything with the Sony Reader desktop software to authorise the device, or associate it with my Adobe ID. I think I did, but it was a month ago! On the Mac, the Reader desktop software's built-in help has a section on authorising the device in regions without Sony stores, so maybe check the built-in help.

It might be worth breaking down the problem into 2 steps - get ADE running and authorised, and then get Sony's stuff hooked up.

Just copy the books to the reader with any file manager.

Buy non-DRM epubs, look at the Freebies and Resources section of this forum.

Are you buying from Kobo on your computer? If so, after you buy the book, click the "Download as ePub" button and then double click on the .acsm file that is downloaded. If that doesn't open ADE, then right-click on the file and select "Open With" ADE.

I buy from Kobo using my desktop computer, then log into Kobo with the T1 and download the epub directly via wi-fi. Bypasses the need for ADE or the Sony software.

Also, if you're having trouble Adobe-authorizing your reader for DRM files, you might want to try what I did, since I'm also in a non-Sony Store country. I set my region setting in the T1 to USA, then created a Reader Store account using my Adobe ID/ADE email address. The authorization was done in a flash.
