PRS-T1 Delete notes is frozen

Hi all, I hope someone can help. I have thousands of notes on my Sony touch (not sure how that even happened- maybe when I was trying to figure out how to do notes) and have been trying to delete them a few at a time. Now the deleteing is frozen. I can't move away from the delete screen or turnoff my ereader. Will this mean that I will need to reset and will that cause all my books to be removed? Ever since I updated the 'firmwear"(? is that what it is called?- sorry not very techy) a couple of days ago my ereader has been buggy.

Well, I decided to reset the ereader. I tried 6 times it didn't work. I pushed the power button and the ereader restarted. Hmm, now Reader for PC doesn't work. The sync just hangs and hangs. I have to go through the task manager to close the program. I have resorted to just dragging and dropping my ebooks- way easier.
It is just ridiculous, you shouldn't have to go through all this to just get an ebook onto your ereader. Don't get me wrong- I love my Sony ereader but the software and firmwear is absolute crap.
