Christmas came early! (for ten minutes...)

Took the plunge and got my Vox today. It's supposed to be a part-christmas present, so I was allowed to open it up and have a look - I told my wife I had to "make sure it was updated to latest software, and that usually takes about 30mins".

Darn thing was already at latest version - only got 10 minutes play time before it was whisked away to be wrapped up by Santas elves!

The good news is: Only 6 more sleeps until Christmas!

My Vox is a Christmas gift too... but a co-worker convinced my husband that part of the Christmas gift should be allowing me to be an early adopter, so I've had my Vox since day 1. Thankfully, I have a 2 year old, so although I'm not looking forward to what is under the tree for me this year, I am so excited about watching him experience the joys of the holiday!

My son's 12 now - so not as exciting. But he is still clinging to the memory of Santa Claus when it suits him! Lol

The latest version is still the Nov 17th one, so unless it was old stock (unlikely), that's what it should have had. We're waiting for another update before Christmas, but I expect Kobo is still tweaking it so as to not send out something that's still problematic.

"We're waiting for another update before Christmas, but I expect Kobo is still tweaking it so as to not send out something that's still problematic."

Lets hope this happens. I bought a Vox for my wife for Christmas and am a little hesitant to gift it to her in its current incarnation. I've spent the last week getting all software on and getting to know all the problems, getting her library working, a few magazines and subscriptions working etc. I can help her when she needs help but I don't want to gift her with something that will frustrate her because she is a user not a tinkerer, a fairly savy user, but still.
I know the above sounds like one big excuse to keep the Vox for myself but its not
I have really begun to enjoy the little thing and its become stable and it now works as expected, perhaps my expectations have changed, or I have began modifying my behaviour to accomodate the small issues without realizing it. It would t hough be really nice to get an update that irons out most of the obvious bugs in the device before Christmas.

Best,
W.

Only Kobo staff can speak for Kobo, of course, but I am absolutely sure that the developers are working very hard to track down the source of the problems the Vox is having with sleep and battery issues. Will there be a solution by Xmas; well, everyone sure hopes so.

Frankly, in my opinion, I don't really think the average Vox user has experienced any of the problems we read about here. Or if they have, they probably didn't know it or worry about it. I know that when I first had mine, I didn't really know the difference between when it was "sleeping" and when it was "off", so when it didn't turn on with a touch of the button, I just pushed it longer. Even the reviewers are biased and privy to all kinds of rumours that the average user wouldn't hear.
