Easy way to mark a page break in a .txt ?
I wish to instruct calibre to insert page breaks in the epub output. I don't want to go into the complexities of scripting or xpath. I have tried entering ^L and the ascii character 12 in my txt file with no avail. Is there an easy way ?

I use markdown formatting and then insert this into the text file where I want a page break:
Code:
<div class="pb"></div> Code:
.pb {page-break-before : always;} |

Thanks for your reply.
I entered both codes where you told me to, but it didn't work. It's probably the "markdown formatting" part. Can you tell me more, please ? |

It works, but it defeated something else. I used to have Plain formatting style. Now that it's Markdown, my blank lines have disappeared. I am sure there is another tweak that would give me both the blank lines and the page breaks. I believe you can do anything you want with calibre, but you have to become a specialist. Why not have preset templates or profiles: exact reproduction, poetry, etc ?
Anyway, thanks for your benevolence. |

You need three blank lines in a row to have a blank line register with Markdown IIRC. It may help to enable the heuristics 'format scene breaks' option as well.
As to your request - there is no simple way to do that using text as an input document. If you want to stick with text as your base format (and this is not a bad way to go by any means) then I suggest you learn a bit more about Markdown and/or Textile. Markdown is a bit less techy but not quite as feature rich as Textile. Last edited by ldolse; 12-17-2011 at 02:40 AM. |
