Selling used Kindles
FYI, I think the best way to sell a used Kindle is on Amazon.com.
At first I tried selling my used Kindle DX US on ebay. I set a buy now price of $199 and starting auction price of $145, which I felt was very fair since I was also selling it with the black cover. After a few days of no bids, I was a little bit impatient so I took it off and placed it on Amazon.com for $195, which was the lowest price of all sellers (on ebay it would be considered one of the highest). It sold within hours. I also think that the seller fees are lower on Amazon.com than on Ebay+Paypal. A lot of people on Ebay try to put in bids at the very last second so the seller is just left wondering why no one has bid...and then right at the end he/she sees it sold for an okay price. Also, I rarely get people electing to "buy now" on ebay...they tend to prefer auction style. Overall, I definitely recommend Amazon.com over Ebay if you are selling a used Kindle. And, I guess this makes a lot of sense...since people looking for Kindles would naturally go to Amazon.com. Although, Ebay has a lot more people selling Kindles than Amazon.com. I don't like Ebay. I don't like how they nickle and dime you to death, the fees they charge are too high, their listings are too chaotic. it's just a crappily run company in my opinion. |

Just sold my K4NT for $150 in Russia through local ads site (I paid $120 with the delivery for it) MADE $30 F**K YEAH lol
What's interesting is that people are way are more interested in crappy 7" chinese iPad-looking tablets which I sell for $115 (I buy them for $65 + sloooow free delivery). For 1 call about the kindle I got 10 ones about the tablet. Note the margin for K4 was 25% while the margin for Ipad wannabe is 78%!!! People are suckers for cheap stuff. |

Something to consider also is offering a trade on Craigslist Electronics deprecate in value over time, but when you offer a trade you could link up with someone who has something with a greater value than you could get in straight up cash, which you want anyway . Everyone tends to have items in their house they don't use, but have intrinsic value, so they don't want to throw them away
Two examples of trades I made like this: -- I traded a Mp3 boombox that I was asking $35 for a Cateye Strada CC-RD300W bike computer worth $50-60 at the time -- I traded a brand new bicycle hydration pak I paid $50 for a Yakima 1A Raingutter roof rack with cross bars worth $200+ when new. The only downside is that it takes forever to move anything on Craigslist in my locality despite the fact I live 1 hour from NYC and a little over 1 hour from Philadelphia, one of the most densely populated areas of the USA and economically active areas of the word. I gonna bump this thread for an ancillary question I don't want to make a new thread for.
I got a Kindle 2, that is still unused on Craigslist for $90 months ago. I am trying to resell it for $70. But I have two thoughts on my options: 1) Lower the price to something that makes it irresistible like $50 and eat $40. 2) Hold on to it till the Kindle Keyboards are out of stock, and it will command a higher value because you can use the 3g for net instead of just Wikipedia and the Amazon store. Is option 2 totally unrealistic thinking? |

Given that the 3G web works poorly and the K2 does not have a pearl screen, I would be surprised if you got your money back for it.

A 20 dollar loss($70) would be cool for me, or maybe a trade on craiglist for something worth similar.

I don't see you getting $70 when there is a $79 Kindle with a pearl screen

A used Kindle 3 with 3g is selling for over $120 so I think A Kindle 2 with 3G could definitely sell for $70. |

Eh, I'd just assume use Craigslist. I could list it and sell it local, not have to worry about shipping and all that jive.
But, that's just me. |

You might also try selling your K2 on the Buy/Sell forum here on MobileRead, or on the Buy/Sell forum on Kindleboards.com.
