Reading Notes and Highlights on K4 Mac
I recently purchased the Kindle Touch. I have had NO problem reading .mobi files that I created with Calibre on the Kindle Touch. I simply place the file in my documents folder on the Kindle Touch. The problem is that I want to export my notes that I take on the .mobi file on the Kindle Touch to my Kindle for Mac.
I have been able to do this in the past when I took notes on my Kindle app for Android. I simply transferred the .mobi file along with the .mbp file to my Kindle for Mac and the notes show up just fine. However on Kindle Touch when I take notes it appears to store them in a folder called .sdr which holds two files: .mbs and .mbp1 When I transfer these files along with the .mobi file to my Kindle for Mac - I can read the book on Kindle for Mac but the notes I took on the Kindle Touch do not show up. Is there a way to transfer the notes from the Kindle Touch so I can read them on Kindle for Mac? (I know about "My Clippings" and that is NOT what I need") Thanks! |

There is such a bestiary of sidecar files now, Amazon must have felt the need to place some order on things. Unfortunately, it looks like they have broken your use case.
I don't think it is going to be possible until K4Mac can participate in the Personal Documents service. At that point, you notes and highlights will automatically sync and back up, and life will be even more beautiful. But it is one of those if and when questions. And it bears mention that it was not long ago that Mac did not support notes at all. The other possibility is to reverse engineer the mbp1 and mbs files, and create a script to translate to mbp (which has already been somewhat reverse engineered). Or get a KK for this purpose. |

ok thanks. I wish I had the expertise to reverse engineer those files but I don't even know where to start. I guess I will have to wait. What is KK?
