do you use e-reader exclusively?

just wondering what the majority here was doing with their e-readers..

after you got your e-reader, did you "quit" reading regular books?..

do you use you e-reader exclusive for your reading.

i plow books like crazy, but first now that i have ordered my first e-reader.. wonder if it will go in my drawer with all other gadgets or if i am going to fall in love with it..

I only buy paper books when the book is something I would really like to have and own forever. Otherwise I'll use the library to check out the paper version if the ebook isn't available, or if it costs more than I'm willing to spend.

No, and no to both questions.

I still read and buy plenty of paper books. Many things are not available in e-editions (foreign-language works, academic stuff) and some things simply don't translate well to portable e-readers (artbooks, some types of reference). Also, "free at the library" beats "$12.99 with DRM" any day for stuff I'm likely to only read once.

As for non-book stuff I put on my Kindle, I keep class lecture notes and public transit schedules/maps in PDF for easy accessibility. I also sometimes keep a list of the paper/comic books I've bought so that I don't keep re-buying stuff I already own when I'm at the used bookstore/comic shop seasonal sales.

I'm a longtime audiobook listener, and there are many books that are only available in print. I keep podcasts, and some shorter audiobooks, on my reader.

If I absolutely can't find it in e-form, I'll grab the hard copy.

However, for most texts (school stuff), I prefer to have both.

I've been buying paper novels of books I really want to read and that I'm geographically restricted from buying an ecopy of. Then I hang onto them until the ebook is released and give away the paper. And no, I haven't been reading the paper version.

This is a good thing for my friends but doesn't do much for my wallet.

I'll probably never give up regular print books unless they stopped putting them out. I just will probably be more finicky with what books I buy in print over what books should stay as part of my ebook collection only.

That said, I have begun to buy some book form stuff in ebook so I can read them on the go. Particularly because the only chance I get to read for myself is when I'm on the bus.

It's about 95% ebooks / 5% paper books for me - paper books only if it's something I really want to read but that isn't available as an ebook, or the very rare and exceptional book I want in hard copy as well as an ebook.

Most of the time, if something looks moderately interesting but isn't available as an ebook, I just don't buy or read it.

It is 100% ebooks.
If I buy printed book it is for collection only. Leather bound, limited or special editions of the books I really love. There are very few of those.

I didn't cast a ballot because the choices don't cover my situation.

I read most -- perhaps 95% -- but not all fiction on my dedicated eInk device (Sony 950). There are some fiction authors, like Harry Turtledove, David Weber, L.E. Modesitt, Jr., and Robin Hobb, whose books I buy and read in hardcover. Occasionally, I will buy one of their books in both hardcover and ebook, in which case I read the ebook version and save the hardcover in my library.

But for the most part, my ebook reading is focused on read-once-then-throwaway fiction.

All of my nonfiction is purchased in hardcover and read in hardcover. Occasionally, I will buy both the hardcover and ebook version of a nonfiction book (the most recent example is The Swerve, which I was able to buy in ebook for less than $5). In that case, I read the book on my device and put the hardcover in my library.

I prefer to read on my device, but too many ebooks are way overpriced, especially those subject to agency pricing. Most of the fiction ebooks I "buy" are free ebooks, a fair number cost 99 cents, and others I have paid up to $4.99. Anything I bought for more than 99 cents was a result of having read at least one ebook by the author that was free or 99 cents.

I use my ereader exclusively for books. I never read magazines or newspapers on my ereader.

And, I read my books exclusively on my ereader. I could, conceivably, buy a paper book if it were one I really wanted or needed to read and it wasn't available for the ereader. As I am now retired and can read what I please that's highly unlikely.

The only time anymore that I will choose a paper book over an eBook is with textbooks and research. For a couple of decades now I've been studying and researching with a highlighter and post it notes and I just haven't been able to transfer those skills to PDF files. Although I did find a searchable PDF file to be invaluable last year when I had to take a really long open book multiple choice test so maybe I'll get there eventually.

For regular enjoyment reading I am pretty much 100% digital now. I turn down books if I can't get them for my reader.

There will always be a place on my bookshelf for signed books, collector's editions, etc. But 100% of my day to day reading is done electronically.
