Free e-books from Smashwords with coupons

I don't know anything about these books - they don't have any reviews, but they are free, so I thought to give them a try .

Mortality Revisited by Will Decker, Sci-Fi, regular price $2.99, use coupon YK74Q.

Quote:
Book 1 in the Healf Saga. When Capt. 'Rod' Rodick crashes in the Eastern Fringe, he has no idea that his aircraft was the last viable craft left on the planet and that his crash signified the start of a terrible new era. On a planet with only one side that is habitable by man, it's imperative for the human race to maintain a constant westward progression in order to stay ahead of the rising sun, the heat of which turns the surface into a Hellish inferno, scorching everything and everyone in its path! After crashing, Rod is rescued by the beautiful, but strong-headed Lote who is accompanied by her aging parents. They begin an arduous journey westward to stay ahead of the rising inferno, while keeping their own raging desires in check. It is only through dumb luck that they discover there is a whole other side to Healf-an inside. Follow them on their journey through the dangerous tunnels and catacombs of one of the most Hellish planets in the Universe.

Overrun: Project Hideaway
by Michael Rusch, Sci-Fi, regular price $1.00, use coupon ZF94N.

Quote:
A week following the declaration of war, the U.S. is close to defeat. A failed genocide attempt becomes known to the public and the President must answer to the world for his administration's sins. An element still exists that could bring victory to the battered U.S. forces and ease the tensions of a quickly dividing country. The President launches a covert military team to retrieve it.

Thank you! If Mortality Revisited turns out to be good, I might just have to read the rest of the series.

See what you started?!?

Glad you like it. Here is another one:

Blood and Bronze by David J Guyton, fantasy, regular price $0.99, use coupon CC73Y. This is the second book in the "Legend of Reason" series.

Quote:
The doom of the western world is on the horizon. Hope that was promised has turned to dust, and the violent storms of rebellion begin. Beings from hidden realms demand their freedom, or threaten all of mankind with their legions of the dead. Will Medora fall to shadow and flame? Or can our heroes bring the light of freedom to the fallen realms?

Cemetery Street by John Zunski, Drama, regular price $4.99, free with coupon LP83E. This is a new book, no reviews yet.

Quote:
“In a world of presumptuous people, irony is alive and well,” concludes James Morrison, the narrator of this touching coming of age novel. A view Shannie Ortolan - James’s longtime friend, sometimes lover, and fulltime obsession - wouldn’t argue. From their first encounter as teenagers until Shannie’s death, experience the twists, turns and enthralling characters that populate Cemetery Street.
On the cusp of the new millennium, James fulfills a promise. Reenacting a childhood ritual, he places a mud pie upon a grave. This simple act triggers powerful memories.
Meet the people that shaped James’s life. Shannie, who among other things, introduces him to the sport of dodging freight trains. Count, the cemetery caretakers son, helps James navigate the minefields of adolescence until destiny is met in Desert Storm. Russell, an aging blind African-American, guards a horrifying secret behind a cloud of cigar smoke. Diane, Shannie’s mother, a college professor dispels the notion of tweed jackets and elbow patches. Steve Lucas, a mortician’s son, who despite bizarre obsessions, stands by James during his most challenging times.
Laugh, cry, and blush as James recounts events of late twentieth century American life.

Friends of Choice by Linda Nelson, Young adult, Drama, regular price $2.99, free with coupon VJ83F. It comes with mixed reviews.

Quote:
Karla's parents have sold the house and now she has to move. She hates the thought of moving to a new town. This will mean leaving her best friends behind. Her parents told her it was because of her Dad's job and Karla thinks they have not been fair to her. She wonders why she can't have a say in moving or where they are moving to. This whole ordeal has left her feeling angst and rebellious toward her folks.
The school she is to attend is about three times the size of her old school. It can hold many new opportunities for her.
At Brantwood High, she meets Carol Bower, who helps her find her first class. She invites Karla to eat lunch with her and is introduced to her clique of friends.
In her history class, Karla meets her first crush. He is one of Carol's friends. He is also the football captain of the varsity team.
They invite Karla to her first teen party. But first, she must convince her parents into letting her sleep over Carol's.
She begins to feel she is about to be a victim of hazing. Karla starts to have second thoughts about going to this party and hanging out with Carol and her friends.
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.

Letters To My Mother by Rebecca Heath, Romance, regular price $1.99, free with coupon QJ37W. This book comes with good review on Amazon and Goodreads.

Quote:
We were reaching the Student Union when Dr. Rosenau broke the silence. "You know, I never eat young ladies on Fridays. Only on Tuesdays."
I couldn't help laughing. "Do I look that apprehensive?"
"Yes, rather." He opened the door for me. "But I have just the cure for you. It's David Rosenau's patented shyness remedy, strawberry shortcake garnished with whipped cream, to be taken at least once weekly in charming company. Doctor's orders."
Kate is a college junior, a gifted student who skipped two grades in school, a naval officer's daughter who's lived in more places than she can remember. Shy and bookish, she's never had a boyfriend, let alone been kissed or gone on a date. Kate thinks falling in love is something that only happens to other girls.
David is a college professor, a sailor, a brilliant scientist trapped in a failed marriage; aloof and reclusive, he buries himself in teaching and research. David's convinced he'll go through life with an empty heart.
When Kate gets a campus job as David's typist, they discover they're both mistaken. Letters To My Mother is a May-December romance set in 1950s Seattle.

Diary of the Displaced by Glynn James. Horror, regular price $2.99, free with coupon FE74D. This book comes with good review on Amazon and Goodreads. Enjoy!

Quote:
There is a place where nightmares come true.
A dark and terrifying place that is hidden from the world we know by borders that only the most unfortunate of souls will ever cross.
James Halldon woke up in the dark, alone, without any food or water, and without a clue where he was.
And it only got stranger.
"Of all the places I had to end up, it had to be here."
The Journal of James Halldon is a Horror Fantasy novel, giving a detailed account of his struggle to survive, whilst trying to understand the strange, dark, terrifying world in which he is trapped.
If it's dark when you wake up, and you can hear growling, then close your eyes and maybe it will go away.
But maybe it won't.

A Kingdom's Cost by J.R. Tomlin. Historical fiction, regular price $2.99, today is free with coupon RZ38G. Enjoy!

Quote:
James Douglas can only watch, helpless, as the Scottish freedom fighter, William Wallace, is hanged, drawn, and quartered. Even under the heel of a brutal English conqueror, James's blood-drenched homeland may still have one hope for freedom, the rightful king of the Scots, Robert the Bruce. James swears fealty to the man he believes can lead the fight against English tyranny.

The Bruce is soon a fugitive, king in name and nothing more. Scotland is occupied, the Scottish resistance crushed. Only James believes their cause is not lost. With driving determination, he blazes a path in blood and violence, in cunning and ruthlessness as he wages a guerrilla war to restore Scotland's freedom. James knows he risks sharing Wallace's fate, but what he truly fears is that he has become as merciless as the conqueror he fights.

Something doesn't make sense about this one. When you go to the link it's shown as free which would render the coupon moot.

Same thing with Gemma Halliday's Hollywood Scandals, which has a "100% off" coupon as part of the Backlist Ebooks Merry May Sale, May 16-22, link here:

http://backlistebooks.com/specials.html

But, it's already free on the site, so I'm not sure why there's a coupon.

But, WTH, I'm happy whether it's free once over or free twice over!
