Mobi format corrupt when downloading to Kobo Touch
I have several MOBI format books which I've downloaded to my Kobo Touch, however whilst I can "view" them they are mostly corrupt. The first page or 2 are readable as are pictures for cover etc.
However after that the text slowly degenerates to gobbledygook and becomes unreadable - does anyone know if theres a reason for this please? Thanks Dellboy67 |

Kob reads EPub and cannot read Mobi. You have to convert the books from MOBI to EPub if you want to read them on your Kobo

I would try opening the ebooks in another program to verify if they are corrupt. If you don't have a program on your computer, you could install Calibre and see if it will open them up without problem.

I thought I read somewhere, around here probably, that although the Kobo supported the Mobi format, it didn't do it very well. Assuming these aren't DRM encumbered mobi files, it would probably be best to convert them to epub using Calibre and reload them to your Kobo (assuming calibre can read them as VicLavigne said).

yeah, my first thought was that they might be corrupt files - but if it is several mobi books or even every mobi book the user tries, the likely culprit is the device.
I'd try to view them somewhere else too and probably convert them to ePub to see how that works. |

I don't believe mobi is high on the list at Kobo to support. I did see that they include mobi on the specs list but I have noticed they have removed it from other places.
The actual carton it is sold in does NOT list Mobi and, in fact, promises ePub and PDF only. But, quite correctly HarryT points out Kobo continues to state on its website that Mobi is supported. I tried a couple of calibre Mobi's way back when the Touch was launched and the result was not charming. Kobo's online tech spec actually states: "Note: If you have eBooks in other formats you can sometimes use free applications like Calibre to convert them to EPUB or PDF." which is probably the best advice. Several features -- like dictionary lookup -- only work with Kobo native kepub and imported epub anyway. |

Yeah, it says they work but they don't seem too. Though someone did say that they have started working in the newest firmware.
