I've been keeping an eye on his product. So far the specs look good and the product has my desired form factor., but I'm not holding my breath I have a feeling they are going to tie this product to a carrier.

I am so sick and tired of tablets being tied to some 3G or 4G data plan.

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!
7" with 217ppi means a 1280x800. Sounds like it is going to be priced out the range of the hoi polloi. Regards - John |

Check this one out.
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/...hd-screen.html Saw this at $220 including shipping from China. Regards - John |

Apparently nobody saw the humor in my previous post, (Saw this at $220 including shipping from China.) but this is a serious contender.

Still haven't seen anything that would make me want to replace my Nook Color. Kudos to B&N for hitting the sweet spot on their first entry into the market.

I've just seen and handled one of the Huawei Mediapad 7" tablets as described at the start of this thread. The screen is amazingly clear and sharp - sharper than most printed pages. It comes with Akido as a standard app so I was able to try reading the standard book and this was easy and OK on the eyes once I dropped the brightness down. Construction feels very solid without being too heavy. Likely cost in NZ$=450 so US$= around 350, say.
I found it better than my Sony PRS-650 on the brief trial read - that 219ppi is very nice indeed. Paul Last edited by pmcnz; 12-08-2011 at 04:29 AM. |

Now I have. Considered the Kindle Fire, but lack of card slot ruled it out. Then it was the Nook Tablet, but a better spec'd Acer A100 at a lower price ruled it out. Also in contention was a 5" Galaxy Player. In the end, I chose the Galaxy Player to replace my Nook Color.
