I would also LOVE a cover with a light. I've never found a good light to use for the nook. They are all clunky and difficult to store.

The best cover I've found for eReaders is the ones made by m-edge; they also have the best book light in the sense it lights the entire screen and can be positioned so it doesn't cover up the screen. There are two approaches.
One is the Executive cover which has the light inside the cover at all times. http://www.medgestore.com/products/n...p?device=nook3 The second option is the m-edge Go Jacket. http://www.medgestore.com/products/nook3-go.psp With the Go Jacket the light is carried separately from the cover and inserted into the cover when you need a book light. The advantage of the Go Jackets is lighter weight. I've used both but I only need a book light at night while I carry my Nook around all day so light weight together with a very sturdy cover works best for me. Unfortunately there are just three colors right now. The cover and the light are two separate purchases. The light is called the m-edge eLuminator. It fits most of the m-edge products. |

Don't buy anything from medge. They are a bunch of bold faced liars. Never buy from a company that out and out lies to it's customers/potential customers.

I've bought m-edge covers from Amazon, Staples and directly from their Internet site and never had a problem.

They outright lied to Sony customers when lots of Sony customers asked for covers. They said they were not making covers for the x50 line because there was not enough demand.
Yet they listed covers for products there were not yet actually available for sale and thus could not have enough demand. To me, that outright bold faced lying. It would have been better had they just said we have no interest in making covers for Sony Readers. But instead they lied. |

Sometimes it's also a bit hard to latch the cover in the reverse (open) position as well. I'm not a huge fan of the plastic they use to secure the Nook either (I preferred the fabric straps in the older M-edge cases...I loved my Nook 1 m-edge jacket). I got it for 50% off (my wife had a customer loyalty coupon she gave me) so I'm happy with it for the price I paid. I would like a smaller case though in the long run. The light is great though, with 3 brightness settings and a just-bendy-enough neck. |

I'd also like to find a high quality cover w/ light for the Simple Touch Nook that isn't ... well, quite so much larger than the Nook itself. Most of the ones I've found are low quality or severely overpriced.
Is the M-Edge one really the only one worth considering? |

It looks as if a lightweight cover and unobtrusive light might be the best option. I say that as a person who loves the official lighted cover for the Sony PRS-350 and has hunted for that very solution for the Kindle (and lately the Nook).
After using their lights for over a year, I can't recommend mEdge because the eLuminator becomes awkward and annoying over time. Its longish insert tends to shift in the cover, making the light itself move out of position as you tilt your reader; the insert also makes the light heavier and larger than it should be. Additionally, the touch version can be switched on and off inadvertently, which I find particularly annoying in crowded trains and planes. I used the mEdge Antique Jacket and two kinds of eLuminator with my Kindle Keyboard for quite some time; I've also used the eLuminator with the Platform Jacket for the Kindle 2 with my PRS-950. That case is a perfect fit and I love and highly recommend it for the Sony, but there are more ergonomic solutions for the Nook ST. The Antique Jacket looks nice, but it's also a bit too bulky. When the Solis went on sale with Octovo's most expensive leather jacket thrown in for $5 (it had been $80), I bought the package and was amazed how much more enjoyable my user experience became. The slender fit and lighter weight still make me feel as if I own a brand new device every time I break it out. If you choose the right cover and light, you can have that same experience on the Nook ST. What I'd look for is (1) a slim-fitting elegant cover and (2) an attractive, firmly situated and unobtrusive light like Octovo's Solis for the Kindle. I've heard people praise the Verso Arc Light in that regard, and seeing it at B&N definitely made me want to pick one up, since it fits the ST. I'll check my Solis over the weekend to see whether it fits the ST (once my grillfiend opens her present!), but the Arc is designed quite similarly and seems to be used the same way. The only reason to even consider a Solis would be its looks. If you own a swanky leather cover, the Solis resembles a silver cap at the top, which makes it look like you're carrying a flask of expensive Scotch or perfume (depending on the style of the leather). I'll let you know whether it works and, if so, how well. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 12-09-2011 at 03:02 AM. |
