Urgent, stuck at Prep DX 2.5.8

I run jailbreak kindle-jailbreak-0.10.N.zip, no problem

Then run update_dxg-2.5.8-prepare_kindle.bin and it has been almost 3 hours, still on the

Perhaps you need to UNINSTALL the jailbreak, do the update, then reinstall the jailbreak?

Some of the newer firmwares do not want to install on a modified root partition. The uninstallers should put it back how the firmware update wants to see it.

Thanks for the quick update.

I have firmware 2.5.8. The Prep instruction say both client and host must be jailbroken.

Can I just hard boot in the middle of the updating?

- Uninstalled 0.10 jailbreak
- Try prepare, failed
- Try install 0.6 jailbreak, fail
- Reset factory default
- Try install 0.10 jailbreak again, failed, error U006
- A few more tries, turned out U006 is normal
- Try Prepare again, now pass VCreating into Compressing

One note, max99 mentioned attached usb cable might cause his/her first update failed. Doesn't make much sense. But when you are in deep @#$!, every last straw counts. So I followed that advice on my second try.

Tried to create a 3.3 update package from my soon to be back K3K, but Update is disabled. I heard there's nothing worth trying there? Or can you use the default Amazon 3.3 firmware on top of 3.2.1 on DXG?

Duokan is not worth the hassle on DXG. Rolling back.

nope you can't just apply the amazon 3.3 firmware on 3.2.1 DXG. You have to follow the steps yifanlu provided at the https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=420.

I didn't see a benefit of 3.3 on my DXG over 3.2.1.

Take that back, trying again. Unlimited no blinking pdf paging and notes taking ...

But if I upgrade 2.5.8 to 3.2.1, the boot menu disappears. Anyone got an idea? Thanks

reinstall duokan and all other hacks (launchpad, screensaver hack etc) as upgrading to 3.2.1 disables all hacks.

But which upgrade package should I use? When I was on 3.2.1, their DXG upgrade bin does not work, "Upgrade Your Kindle" is grayed out.

rtm0.5.13.8942 Beta0520\升级包\DXG升级包\update_dk_09.bin

Tried other bins, but they do not match DXG version B009, so the menu option is also grayed out.

Check this topic. I used duokan on 3.2.1 this way. I wasn't even aware that normal install fails.

Saw that one too. I'm scratching my head on launchpad and what the hack is "copy it to your device under user root directory [/mnt/us]"

My Linux knowledge is limited to ls -l Is there a Kindle/hack/launchpad 101 thread?


EDIT: hope I don't have to order a USB networking cable first? Is there some kind of bin file to install the launchpad?
