Foreign eBook help

Is there an easy way to find foreign ebooks without actually speaking the language? I'm getting a Kindle for my sister this christmas and I want to load it with her whole PBook library, but as she's a language student they're just about all french or german. I don't know nearly enough French or German to be able to navigate anywhere likely to host them.

Does anyone know anywhere that's easy to get around?

is a list of all German books available here at MobileRead, you must use the mobipocket version

If you want to buy here some books, maybe Amazon is a good starting point.

Will amazon.de sell ebooks to people outside Germany?

I don't know, but most probably you may be right if your question implies that they won't do it. I'd rather thought that amazon.com has German books, too, but a quick search showed that they only have few.

I honestly don't know - it was a genuine question. Since, however, Amazon UK will only sell to people in the UK, unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me if Amazon DE was similarly restricted.

But as I said before I guess your assumption is right, I remember vaguely some dutch or belgian posters complaining about it.

There are some French and German books on Project Gutenberg.

Amazon won't let me buy ebooks from Amazon.fr (list of bestsellers: right hand column is free ones), but I look there to find the free ones, then search on the UK site to download them.

I think most of the French ebooks can be bought from the UK site, but only get them from Amazon if I can't get them anywhere else, because I don't have a Kindle. I haven't tried any German books, but I would imagine the situation would be similar.

As a Canadian, I can purchase French, German, and Spanish language (and presumably other that I haven't yet come across) e-books via both Amazon.com (set to Canadian region) and Kobo (automagically geo-restricted).

Provided the publishers have made said non-English language books available to Canadians in the first place.

On the left-hand side of the Amazon Kindle store sidebar, there's a section for "Foreign Language Books" which does auto-listings for Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese, with subcategories shown in English. There's a bunch of public domain classics in each language that the OP could always load up for her sister.

I suggest you attach a gift card with the Kindle as a gift. It is very unlikely that you would find something in French or German that she would want to read. It's hard with English, more so with a language that you don't speak/read.

ebooks aren't goods, apparently - I can order pbooks from anywhere but ebooks you suddenly have all those silly borders everywhere
