Robert McCammon (Horror) [US] - NOW AVAILABLE

A bunch of these are on preorder for $9.99 for 10/18 at Amazon. Publisher is Open Road, so hopefully the price will go down and/or they will be on sale at some point and possibly with coupons at Kobo.

i'm not a big fan of the $10 price point.

in general though why do publishers feel the need to reprint things simply to justify raising the price?

Awesome - thanks for the heads up! I have all the paperbacks, but I'm finding paperback such a drag to read these days.

Open Road publishers are bringing a lot of backlist titles into ebook format - particularly mystery & horror genres.

I have some of the paperbacks, which I will be replacing, too, and I'm looking forward to reading these older titles I've seen so many raves about.

Open Road has been having a lot of sales, so I wouldn't be surprised to see at least some of these going for $3.99 or less in some the Amazon monthly sales or daily deals or something.

I never expected a sequel. I'll have to re-read the original.

Is it really a sequel? Or just a collection of previously unpublished short stories with the same central character? It's still cool either way, but...

If they are unpublished, very good and I have never read them who cares.
Quote:
The Hunter from the Woods marks the much-anticipated return of Michael Gallatin, the lycanthropic hero of Robert McCammon's 1989 classic, The Wolf's Hour. These all-new, interlinked stories offer a full measure of McCammon's trademark narrative excitement, and comprise a fascinating composite portrait of a unique fictional creation.

The volume opens with a pair of brief glimpses into Michael's early life in Russia and his initial recruitment into the British Secret Service. It ends with a haunting vision of the werewolf at twilight. In between, McCammon gives us three stellar novellas depicting different phases of Michael's long, brutal war against Nazi Germany. "Sea Chase" is a nautical tale about the hazards of transporting a defecting German scientist to a place of sanctuary in England. "The Wolf and the Eagle" is the account of an unlikely friendship between rival "men of action" and a harrowing portrayal of a lethal forced march through the North African desert. "The Room at the Bottom of the Stairs" tells of an impossible, ultimately tragic love affair set in the embattled city of Berlin during the latter stages of the war.

My wallet screams for mercy. About damn time though. Now I know why they pulled Swan Song a few months ago. I think this is also notable because his first four novels have been out-of-print for a long time.

Yeah - I don't think McCammon was that excited about re-releasing the first four novels he wrote. I got the impression from his blog/interview/somewhere, that he thought the first four were - ummm - crap.

From memory, he thought that he should never have been signed on for his first book and it took four books for him to learn to write a decent book.

I've read the first four and they're not brilliant. But hey - I still enjoyed reading them.

Lame. They were up for pre-order. But they're not there now

Edit : Ah, okay. According to his website this is a rights mix-up. And they're coming out soon from Subterranean Press, as limited edition hardcovers and ebooks. Hawt!
