Currently free @ Amazon UK, will likely drop to free in the main store, and possibly show up elsewhere, but for a very limited time.

(ETA: Now a repeat freebie @ Amazon UK (slated to drop in the main store again), B&N (may also drop in the UK), ChristianBook.

Newly free @ Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians).)

As an experiment, I'm using the exclamation-mark/yield sign icon which should show up next to the title for this post to denote a freebie which I expect to last for less than a day or so. Maybe it'll help MR-goers better zero in on the blink-and-you-miss-it stuff, maybe it won't and will just look like a visual mess on the forum listings.

We'll see how it goes.

Honestly, sometimes I wonder just exactly how Sony runs their store as regards to the publisher promo freebies, considering how late they show up and how quickly they expire before the end of the day in any North American timezone*.

Bored intern? Badly programmed computer script? Rube Goldberg-like contraption ending in one of those bobbing-head birds set to hit a particular keyboard key at a particular time interval like that episode of The Simpsons where Homer got fired from the nuclear power plant?

Oh well, at least the thing was free earlier today when I picked it up along with that Eloisa James novella as part of the daily checkout process. Hopefully anyone who really wanted it there was able to get it then.

* This, mind you, may be the key. The prices are lowered during PST-EST, but reset at midnight Japanese time, perhaps...

Maybe they go up with London prices? And down when it rolls over to tokyo (or Australia ... whatever is the latest possible choice).

I suspect the web server is on the west coast and the price drops at midnight there (of maybe after the interns there open their email and notice they need to do that manually). Then, the checkout sever is in England (or perhaps far eastern Greenland) and it says "oh no, it's after midnight HERE").
