How to Update?

I normally keep my wifi off in order to save battery. I have version 1.0.00.09010 and want to update to the latest version but can't seem to find a way to make my device search for updates. Is it supposed to be automatic?

If I were you I wouldn't concern myself until the firmware update to fix the pageturning/freezing issue is available.

They don't have wireless over-the-air updates enabled yet. To update, download the Reader for PC or Mac software. Connect your T1 via USB, and it should prompt you to update the firmware. If not, then you can manually force it by going to the help menu within the Reader software and selecting Check for Updates.

How would you do it anyway, do you need to install Sony Reader software or they typically make the updates available as a stand alone installer?

edit: thanks bookworm girl, looks like you answered my question. I was looking to avoid having to install that software since I prefer using Calibre.

Thanks Dwanthny, mostly I want to know so that I am ready when the new update is released rather than try and figure it out then.

In the past they have posted standalone downloads on their support website with an explanation of the features. They haven't done that with the current update. Maybe they're just overwhelmed. I would like them to do a firmware update to enable OTA (like the 950 and other brands do their updates so you don't need to connect to a computer).
