Watched my first movie last night...wow
Watched my first full-length feature film on my Vox last night. It looked and sounded amazing (even with my cheap ear buds)! It was an .avi file on my SD card, and just used Gallery to play it. Had a full battery - movie was 2 hours long - battery was still over half charged afterwards.
The Vox is going to ROCK when I travel! Movies, books, music, magazines all on the same device! Then I can use WiFi when I arrive to help with travel plans?! And it can fit into my tiny purse!? I can't wait to travel now!!! Sure makes me feel better about my Netflix no longer working... ![]() ![]() Last edited by pokee; 11-13-2011 at 02:28 PM. |

Yeah, I was going to download VLC last week, but I wanted to see how Gallery handled a movie first. I was pleasantly surprised!!!

The great thing about VLC is that you never have to convert a file to a different format.
It's lacking in additional features right now (subtitles, additional audio tracks, playlists), but it's still in Alpha and it's still better than the built-in "gallery" player. |

I admit to relying on my iPad for entertainment while travelling prior to my Vox. With the flexibility to side load movies of my choice and music from RDIO, I haven't touched my iPad since.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it for more than reading as much as I am! Jason |

I was, after the somewhat sluggish UI performance, quite surprised the little machine could handle HD video (with hardware acceleration - which indicates that the Kobo guys will still be able to tweak the framebuffer a little - whatever is inside there).
For video I use http://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/ by the way. Same features as VLC, but stable. |

I read this thread before watching any show on my vox and was expecting something of a good picture. But nothing so great as it is. Such a clear, crisp picture.. I admit it's better than my (crappy) tv, maybe even laptops to some extent. (Maybe because I can hold closer)
I'm quite amazed at it. I never expected to be THAT good. I use VLC because that's what I use on my computers. The only thing that's disappointing is the one lone speaker. |

Trouble I found with Gallery was that when you had a number of videos, it wouldn't label them so you knew which was which. So I downloaded MoboPlayer and it's great! I just haven't figured out how to properly bookmark my spot in the middle of a movie.

Okay - dumb question - can anyone suggest a good site to download some high quality videos so I can test out the player before my 30-days are up? I can't get anything to stream worth a darn on the Vox right now (netflix, youtube, tsn, cnn, etc.), so downloaded video files may be the only way I can test this out...
Thanks! |

Buy a set of Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones...and be amazed by the clarity of the soundtrack...as well as the silence within any environment. With these, you can read, cruise the Net, at any location...Starbucks, Chapters, Tim Horton's...parkbench...anywhere and background noise and clatter goes off into the sonic sunset. Pricey...but WOW...what performance. Also, it has ample volume without the need to use an in line headphone amplifier with the Vox, and most any other mp3 player. Just a suggestion.... ![]() Edit: .... you can remove the cable and use only the headphones to silence the reading environment. This is advantageous, in that you can concentrate on the book, movie soundtrack and/or music file, and not the conversations and other noise going on around you... I think that the QuietComfort 15's should be on the Christmas list for anyone owning any sort of eReader/MP3 player that gives you a 'portable', quiet library environment. The headphones use 1 (one) AAA battery which will last you a very economical 30 hours or more. Rechargeable ones also work. These are a 'must have' if you want to use your Vox to read or watch a movie cruising in the clouds, where I'd imagine a lot of owners would turn it on!
