Good afternoon from new member
Hello every one. Very glad I found this site. I'm an expectant purchaser of a kindle device. I've been doing a lot of research and reading many different reviews. I've ended up ordering two models from Amazon. They will be delivered early next week prior to Thanksgiving. I ordered a Kindle Fire and a Kindle 3 with keyboard, WiFi model (no 3G). I'll try them both and return one or the other. I may return both. Amazon's return policy is ironclad and very good, I hear.
What I wanted from an e-reader was the ability to read books first and formost. Second priority was the ability to read local newspapers and news magazines. I now subscribe to Newsweek, Time and would like the New Yorker. Color images for these mags is not critical to the content, IMO. My third priority was to have the ability to check my email and use map quest for planning trips to various locations. I also would like the audio reader features available. I really don't care about having movies, games or personal computing and wouldn't expect to use those services that much. I have TVs and computers for that purpose. I purchased the Fire first and scheduled it for regular delivery. It will be here by Wednesday. Then I got on the web and did research and realized there was a lot of faults and glitches with it and it wasn't being recieved very well by the e-reader community. After all it's really first gen stuff and reported to be buggy. Then I ordered a Kindle Graphite with Keyboard as it appeared to do everything I wanted to do and the reviews rated it rock solid. It is 3rd gen stuff but the technology may be dated and I could be buying the proverbial horse when the model T is just being released . I did not get the 3G as it would have cost 189.00,(11.00 less than the Fire) unless I agreed to allow them to spam my device with adds and offers. I read alot. There is always a book by my bed, 2 newsmags in my car, two more next to my easy chair. Right now I'm thinking the kindle keyboard is the one that fills the bill for me. I'm hoping the experts on this forum will guide me to the right choice based on first hand knowledge. Thanks for any help and advice. Last edited by mohawk; 11-20-2011 at 02:35 PM. |
