Stanza for iPad. Does anyone else see this bug?

In books where the beginning of the chapter has an element with a large margin top, sometimes the text gets pushed down to the point where it may go off the bottom of the screen. Then in the subsequent pages, the text also gets shifted down, as if the top margin carries over from the first page. This is more obvious when you use larger font and smaller margin.

If the first element with text is a h1 h2 ... P, div it's okay. But if it's a blockquote or some other block element and it has a margin-top, that's when I see this problem.

(yes I know stanza is dead. But that is another discussion)

Okay, I was able to fix this bug. I also fixed a number of rendering related quirks that bother me.

One of the great things about Stanza is it uses webkit browser as renderer and it exposes the html template file, css, and the javascript for file pagination. This provides a hook to tweak things a bit without access to the code/ You need a jailbroken ipad, of course. The files are

epub-format.css
epub-functions.js
epub-template.html

Attached couple screenshots. I modified the css to preserve more of the book's formatting, in term of font size and paragraph spacing (the first shot is from the "back page" so fonts are smaller). I also changed the way feedbook does chapter header. Got rid of the word "chapter" and the box for a cleaner look. Added some drop shadow for fun.

I can post the files if anyone interested (and mods have no objection).

Hello,

I don´t know if you can help me, but i seem to be having a problem with a blockquote and the ipad.

my html starts with an h3 and then the blockquote. I have the margins and paddings at 0.

When I see the epub on an ipad the blockquote lines overflow over the first paragraph.

Any ideas? I attach the epub.

I think you mean this?

The reader software is wrapping the line when it doesn't fit, like it's supposed to. If I decrease the font size enough, then it won't wrap.

You can put <nobr> ... </nobr> around each line, but that's just a suggestion to the reader software. It can still wrap if it needs to. You can style blockquote with a smaller font size, like 0.9em, so it's less likely to wrap, but that's about it.

I will try what you suggest. As for the html I cannot take credit for it I donwloaded it so i could a real book to play with.

The funny thing is that for chapter 1 everything works but for the rest of the chapters it doesn't. I think like you say it must be the <br>.

I will post back if I find a good solution.
