Transferring Movies Without Using Cloud

Great forum! I just got my Kindle Fire today. I have lots of movies/tv shows that are mp4 format that I watch on my Ipod. I transferred a show using cloud and the transfer said it would take 2 hours! Does anyone know an easier way? I bought a usb cable. Shame on Amazon for not including a $5 cable. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I haven't tried it but mp4 is supposed to be supported. To load it, plug it in to your pc and just drop the file in the video folder. Should show up in your video tab on the Fire.

I believe there are other video players that are avaialable for Android (though perhaps not yet in the Amazon store) that play a wider variety of formats. Ive used VLC for instance, and highly recommend it.

*and yes, shame on amazon for not including the USB cable. With other Kindles they have included a charger/data cable, and they should have done the same withe the Fire.

Do you have WiFi? If so then all you need to is to installed ES File Explorer then use LAN feature to access the network on your PC like you would on netbook or laptop. See here It works great! No uploading or USB needed.

does it use the same USB cable as the other pixel-ink Kindles? I hope so. Then I won't have to buy one.

Its a standard micro-usb cable, the same kind that came with my Kindle 2. I don't know if later Kindles use the same cable but I assume so.

Here's a wierd thing I noticed: yesterday I loaded a video via usb, but it didn't show up in the Video tab, so I assumed it was the wrong format. Then today I was playing with the Gallery app and noticed the video I had loaded was there, and played just fine. Seems like videos loaded to the Video folder should appear under the Video tab, but I guess Amazon decided that's only for Amazon content. Yet another example of a choice Amazon made that will likely irritate users, especially those who are less technical.

Here's an even simpler way if you have Wi-Fi. No USB cable required.

You can just copy mp4 files over USB but they will not show up in the Video section of the stock launcher (at least I couldn't figure out how to do it) - you will need to use something like ES File Explorer (free in Amazon App Store) to access and launch them.

ES File explorer can also be used to copy things over the WiF (though it would be slower and more battery consuming) than USB way

Anybody has any idea what I need to do to make these videos I transferred through USB, appear in Video tab? Any metadata, anything?

They appear in your Gallery application and can be launched from there.
