[Old Thread] News jobs to DropBox
I rarely connect my iPad to iTunes. What I'd like to do is run my news jobs to my dropbox directory. Then I could get them easily on my iPad via GoodReader.
Also, how do I set the output of my news jobs to PDF? Lee |

4 methods of getting books to device w/o Itunes
Thought I'd pass on several quick Iphone/Ipad tips cause like you, I rarely use Itunes for my devices.
1.) Use Ifile app If you jailbreak your device, you can install a $5 app named Ifile from Cydia that will make you VERY happy. Ifile will permit you to copy files at the actual disk level between any app. It's like Windows explorer for the Iphone/Ipads. Or, also (with the click of one button) it acts like a mine web server and allows you to upload ANYTHING. Once uploaded, you can then copy the files to the docs folder of any app. I use this for new ebooks often. The app is shareware and runs without paying, but for $5 and having used it for many practical things, I was happy to pay. 2.) Good reader app If you prefer to NOT jailbreak your system you can use the $.99 Goodreader app and a free dropbox account. Alternatively, you can setup Goodreader to act like a mini webserver and upload directly using a wifi connection. Once a new ebook is on the device from either approach, you can get the "open in" prompt within Goodreader to let you push the book over to your ebook reader. I use Stanza and know for a fact that this works on the Ipad and Iphone. 3.) Drop box app Install the free drop box app and you can then access your cloud store directly and download stuff. As with the Goodreader app and my Stanza reader, I know this process works with the Dropbox app. The secret is to hunt until you find the 'open in' option. Jailbreak not required. 4.) Sugar synch app New one for me and I can't guarantee it will work like the others, but I'll bet it does, cause so far it's been working well for other things I use dropbox for. Unlike my free 2GB Dropbox account. Sugarsync is offering free 5GB accounts. They also have a free apps store app. It's a very similar experience to the dropbbox app, and so far I can't knock it. Jailbreak not required. ---------------- Anyways, there's 4 ways to get books over to your device, without using Itunes. I left out the process of emailing books, cause I figure you already know about that one. Incidentally, a jailbroken Ipad and the Ifile app permits you to use USB sticks. You have to also purchase the $29 Apple camera kit (gives you a small adapter that plugs into the charging hole). This is how I copy GBs of data when necessary. Really good for movies and with the free VLC player (available fro the apps store), I can watch practically any of my downloaded movies. Great for trips. *** Note: After getting you all worked up about jailbreaking, I should point out that the brand new IOS 4.2 can't be fully jailbroken yet (long story). Must say that my Ipad isn't as useful without all the extra goodies I had, and I'm waiting patiently for the new jailbreak and updated Cydia support. W. |

If your Calibre library already resides inside your Dropbox folder, news should get downloaded there automatically. If not and you don't want to move it there, try taking a look at the command line tools Calibre offers. The one called ebook-convert is able to download news for you.

I am setting up the Dropbox solution and it is really nice. Wouldn't it be nice, if one could just click on a book on the iphone and the installed Kindle for iphone app opened with the book in it?

I know that this is a silly question but I can't find the answer anywhere. How do you move the calibre folder to the dropbox folder? Do I have to reinstall calibre?

Go to the library dropdown menu. The first entry should say something like "change/create new library".

Hi, i know is an old post, but this is related.
I cannot move the library into the dropbox folder due to space limitation. How can i make calibre to create the news every day(week) and copy it to a folder inside the dropbox? I want to make this automatic. Thanks |
