Can't find the right one
Hi,
I've been looking for an ebook reader for some time now and I don't seem to be able to find the right one. I would appreciate some help. My absolute miniumum for it would be: * ePub support * an eink * physical buttons for reading * landscape mode for occasional pdfs Another thing that I would enjoy prefer is extendable memory and audio playback (best if includes ogg format as well). From what I've currently looked at I both liked and disliked the Kindle - good pdf support but no epub. The Nook STR also looked nice if not for the weird memory - out of the 1gb only a quarter is available to books not from B&N? Since I do not live in either US/UK, it is not an option for me to order a couple and just send them back afterwards, and so I cannot really try them out myself. Any suggestions as to what might cover this the most? |

I can only tell you about the ones I have first hand experience of, so I'll just say that the Sony 650 and PRS-T1 both satisfy those requirements (although I have no idea what the ogg music format is so you would have to check that).
No doubt others will be along shortly to suggest others. Whatever you get, I hope you enjoy it ![]() |

If you need more memory you can add an micro-SD card. An 8 GB micro-SD card will cost you only $10, and would store more than 8000 books. |

I've looked at the Sony readers and they do seem to work but are much more expensive. I'll consider them after looking into the lower price range
![]() I have to ask about the Nook STR - how does it fare with pdfs? I did not hear too many good things about that - can a 3rd party app be used to handle them better (as well as other formats)? I've seen some random posts, but can it be done in a usable way? |

Unless you want to root the Nook Touch, it's not going to do landscape mode on PDFs.
If you want OGG support, that's going to be tough in a stock ereader. Tablet, yes - ereader, urr... Last edited by InsulinJunkie72; 11-14-2011 at 08:08 PM. |

No 6" device will display PDFs well; if that's an important requirement for you, you need to be looking at large-screen devices, or a tablet. It's an exercise in frustration trying to read an A4/Letter formatted PDF on a screen that's 1/6th the size that the page is formatted for.

I do not mind rooting it. It was the first thing I did with my phone and I've got no problem with trying such stuff.
The reason for pdfs is this: from what I've seen, the Kindle (normal sized, not DX) handles them well enough, at least in landscape, and it didn't seem to be unusable - not perfect, but good enough for some simpler pdfs. |
