Wink The Nursery Rhyme Game
Just to take a break from some serious writing anyone game for this:

Contribute a new nursery rhyme to this thread in a new color and font. Here is mine (slight variations from the original are permitted)

JACK AND JILL

Jack and Jill
went up the hill
Jack fell down
and broke his crown
and Jill came tumbling after

It's just as well you left out the line about going up a hill to fetch a bucket of water because any decent editor would point out that you don't find water at the top of a hill.

Then any decent editor would be wrong. You could go up a hill to get water, even in the days before modern plumbing. For example you might have to get the water over the hill so you have 2 teams, one getting the water up the one side, and Jack on the other side bringing it down. Also could have rain catching buckets up there and they are full, time to fetch them. Etc, and so one.

It is simply peas, boiled to a mush in salt and water. "Pease" was originally a noun, similar to so, say, "oatmeal", which didn't have a singular. The singular "pea" and plural "peas" was a much later "back-formation" from "pease".

Why not just put the rain collecting buckets outside their house? Or if it is indeed water being transported from one side of a hill to the other for some reason, then this needs to be made more clear in the narrative. Even then it would make more sense for them to walk around the hill rather than up and down it. If it is important that they fall, they could stumble over something instead.

The hill could be an extinct volcano, with a crater-lake at the top. They are not uncommon.
