Got a very interesting job offer. After two weeks of interviews, test, etc, looks is serious and final.
Need advice... what people usually consider, besides salary, when changing employer? Please, help ... ![]() |

1. How well is the new business doing in the present economic conditions ... probability of remaining in business.
2. Health insurance - do you have to pay for it yourself? 3. 401K - does the employer still make matching contributions? |

It really depends on your situation.
I'm married and have children, so I would have to consider, my husband's schedule vs my proposed schedule, the kids' schedule, location, commute, hours and probably a few other things not yet coming to mind (like those mentioned by Poohbear). I would be less concerned about benefits as I'm covered through my husband, where as benefits might be a huge consideration for you and/or your family. I would suggest you sit down and make a pro v con list comparing your current job to this new opportunity. |

Right now:
401k (matched) Good salary Ability to work remotely Seniority, of course No conmute, seriously, less than 3 miles ;-) Job offer: 401k (matched) 20% higher salary Less stress (smaller company) 24 miles commute, but not heavy traffic Comparing, health insurance are good in both, but maybe a bit better on new one... No children, but wife and I thinking on family already, next year... Last edited by jocampo; 11-17-2011 at 09:35 PM. |

Other things to think about: Are you living comfortably with your current salary? Would you be able to raise a child (or two - as identical twins can happen in any family, and fraternal twins are hereditary in some families) on your current salary? Would childcare (as in babysitting/day care center) be a concern? I know the childcare questions don't need to be answered right now, but they should be considered since you know you want a family. |

Stress is the main reason why I'm considering this plus horrible red tape.
My current salary is good and I'm good managing my money ;-) so that helps. However, I would prefer raising a family with a better salary especially when everything went up in price past two or three years. I'm trying to look ahead, looking towards future ... |

Remember, the old saying. A change is as good as a holiday.
It was in my case. One other thing. What are the new people like. I'd rather walk on broken glass then spend eight hours a day with back stabbing nasty co-workers. |
