Bug in battery readout with Nook STR?
Hello all,
I got my new STR a few weeks ago, and have noticed that the battery reads alot lower (about 60%) when reading a book, then when checking in the "Device Info" menu. I am running ver 1.1.0. Bob |

I'm not sure I understand, the only way to accurately check the battery level is in the "Device info" menu, the icon in the status bar is just a guideline. Where else do you check the battery level, outside the "Device info" menu?

When reading a book (epub or PDF), there is a battery icon that appears at the top of the screen, when you press at the bottom to access content, font size, etc. The battery level shown in the icon appears to be about 50% or so, no matter what bettery level is displayed through the settings menu...
I hope that is clear, my previous post was a bit terse. Bob |

I see; the battery icon is just a guideline, it's not an accurate representation of the battery level. It is too small to tell you anything more than "you're ok" or "charge me soon". Also, I don't believe the icon is gradual, it most likely has small set of steps, which could explain the discrepancy you see. For instance, the icon could show 50% when you are below 75% but above or equal to 50%, in which case you would see a half battery in the icon, when the menu could show anything between 50 and 74.
I usually don't worry about the battery until I get the warning, after which I still have a few hours worth of reading available. |

I'm going to have to see if this is really the case - although I've never noticed the icon showing a full charge...

I have a new Nook STR with the latest firmware and it does the same thing. On the Home/main screen it will show the accurate (IMO) battery level. If I am within a a book it will always show a partial battery level( about 1/2). I wondered about it but haven't felt like calling cs.
The battery seems to last a very long time with wireless off, so I haven't been bothered by it. |
