Reuters: HP weighing sale of webOS unit

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/...7A66UM20111107

Quote:
Hewlett-Packard Co is evaluating a potential sale of its webOS software platform in a deal that could fetch hundreds of millions of dollars but likely less than the $1.2 billion the company paid for Palm Inc in 2010, said four sources close to the matter.
Quote:
Several technology companies have expressed an interest in buying the division, which is seen as attractive for its patents, the sources said. Oracle Corp might be among the likely technology firms interested in the asset, one of the sources said.
Curious what Oracle would do with it.

Drop all development and license the patents would seem the most likely.

lol, probably.

Well, looks like HP is going to take their time on making a decision.

Being careful is good...if she can keep the WebOS team together until making a decision.

It is sad how the huge advantage that Palm has was just frittered away. I had a T3 and really liked it, it was my primary reading device for a couple of years. They were dominant in the PDA space in almost the way that Apple are in the iTouch/iPad space, but just did nothing with it.
Didn't release products, released unexciting products, blundered with phones, fiddled with switching platforms.
A huge loss of value, as most Palm users have now moved on to other products, and have no real reason to switch to WebOS rather than iOS or Android.
