whew! That's alot of sales! But then again, like myself, a LOT of people love his work, others loath it.

The Co-written thing really annoys me and I'm not entirely sure why, I used to read him all the time but haven't brought any since they have become only part his work. I think it's because I assume they're substandard compared to his early work.

I believe it is the ever present marketeer in him. Hi sales in Sweden aren't that impressive but he co-wrote one with a female Swedish mystery writer and that sold pretty well, after that his other books has started to gain attention.

And he's been downloaded illegally 467 million times, so he has lost over 5 billion dollars from that alone! ;-) |

Interesting that my library's overdrive selection is anemic (500-ish total books), but JP's books are probably the most common. However as a possible marketing strategy, his series books tend to skip around in availability so if you want to read a complete series you need to buy the missing pieces.

"Film Company Name presents Big Name Guy's Insert Film Title Here" where Big Name Guy often merely reviews the script, shows up just long enough to sign the paperwork for his producer's credit, gets a check, and then appears at the premiere. So it comes down to "that James Patterson book is not a James Patterson book" and "that Fancy Producer film is not a Fancy Producer film". That's not to say that the book (or film) isn't any good, I'm just annoyed by the marketing devices used. Just celebrity endorsement of a different kind. | |

It's another marker / milestone in the coming-of-age of ebook publishing. Bravo, JP. (And, bravo Hachette for navigating the waters in 2010/11 which puts a lot of dollars into the publishing business as a result. Without profits, there is no way forward.)
