Some clarifications about the K4

I have a K3 I am very happy with, but apparently my uncle has stolen the K2 I gave to my aunt, so she now wants another one when I upgrade the one I have now. So, excuse to buy a new Kindle The question is, should I get another Kindle Keyboard, or should I get the new bitty-sized ones? I like the size and form factor of the new teeny tinies but want to make sure I am not losing any features I use. I know it has no text to speech and that is no longer an issue for me (although it is for my aunt, so she's happier with my used Kindle 3). But specially, I want to check the following things:

- Can I use collections? And is there an easier way to do this than manually on a keyboard-less device? I have not investigated Calibre plug-ins, how hard are those to set up and configure?

- Does dictionary lookup work? And can I install non-English dictionaries or change the primary dictionary in any way? I read in French from time to time and I do have a French dictionary purchased from Amazon which I would like to continue using.

- How many books does it hold? I keep about 500 on my K3. It has space for more, but I find it slows down intolerably when it gets much bigger. I know the K4 has a better processor than the K3. How many books will it comfortably hold without a performance issue?

- Any other tips or tricks or issues I should be aware of when coming from the K3 to the K4? I am assuming whispersync and all that other business will continue to work as usual but I am not sure what other features they left out.

The K4 is just like a K3 it's just has half the storage, half the battery life and no audio. You can use collections, custom dictionaries. It have a virtual keyboard that takes some getting use to. I believe image viewer on the K4 does not zoom. You can use the personal documents cloud and whispersync on a K4.

My advice is try to get one with good contrast. It's a hit and miss but some have had better luck then others. The page buttons take some getting use to but it's not a huge deal.

Families are like that, but usually it is the kids not the older people.

LOL I know, she said that she let him play with it for awhile to see if he liked it, and when she looked at it two days later, it said 'Stuart's Kindle' at the top when she turned it on and there was no more Eckhart Tolle He looked, he coveted, he took and then he cleaned house

Kindle NT's handling of dictionaries is even better since it lets you choose a default dictionary for each different input language you have dictionaries for.

1) yes there are collections, I use them myself. easy to set it up.
2) yes
3) 1400 according amazon.
4) major differences you'll find is the lack of keyboard and noticeably lighter and drastically smaller. not much else.

Hi Papi, could you please tell me how that works exactly?
Thanks

I have 6 dictionaries installed on my Kindle NT :
- German : the "official" Duden Universal Wörterbuch and a German to French translation dictionary,
- French : the "official" Dictionaire Français de définitions and Le Robert Nomade 2009, both definitions only dictionaries,
- English : the "official" OED and a English to French translation dictionary

In the settings, I have an entry which is called something like "choose default dictionary", and inside I have 3 entries : French, German, English. For each language I can choose a default dictionary between the 2 dictionaries I have for each language. I guess the device creates as much entries as there are different input languages in the dictionaries, if it has only 1 dictionary for this input language, it's displayed but you can't change it of course, if it has more than 1 dictionary you can set a default one.

So you'll get a new Kindle, give your K3 to your Aunt, and then your Uncle will steal her new K3.
