Kobo vs Kindle

I have a Kobo which broke shortly after I got it in October last year. I returned it for a replacement, and have read only 2 or 3 books on it. Now this one has the same issue.....lots of lines across the bottom - like the screen is dying - which makes the bottom few lines unreadable.

Is it possible to transfer books from a Kobo to a Kindle? I doubt they'll take back my unit a second time....I had just recently purchased 6 or 7 books to take on vacation with me and would hate to waste the money!
