Nintendo Is Working On Bringing E-Books, IOS Content And Digital Magazines To Wii U?

"According to Forget The Box Nintendo is apparently approaching software developers and offering them assistance in porting and publishing software from iOS to the Wii U so that it can be played on the Wii U’s touchscreen controller.

Nintendo is also apparently looking to launch a digital e-reader type service where you can download books, magazines, newspapers, comics, and other publications to your Wii U console. These publications would then stream to your Wii U controller’s touch-screen."

I don't know if reading ebooks on the Wii U controller will be such an enticing proposition.

I know the final product isn't out yet, but judging from the prototypes, it looks to be a fairly hefty device (by eReader standards).

I don't really get why the content needs to be produced in so many formats that it needs to be 'ported' to new machines when we have perfectly good web browsers than can run on all of them.

When I scratched the surface of the Kindle software, it just seems to be a browser reading html anyway.

Why not create web based magazine/book library applications that are not device or operating system specific? Like this one www.thelibrarybythesea.com Seems to work perfectly well on just about anything I own that can run the web. I can even read the stuff on my big TV and turn the pages Minority Report style using the kids Xbox with Kinect.

Don't be such a kill-joy !

You know you can't wait to leap around the room swinging an axe like Gimli in LOR, or cruise through being Mellors in Lady C.
Then there'd be all the excitement of working through George Martin's canon - ( Harry would probably enjoy that.......... )

I'll go for Wind in the Willows I think...

The ebooks thing I could see being ok. I mean, it'd be another way of pushing their Nintendo Power magazine a little more, including issues from previous years. That much would make sense, anyhow.
