I'm breaking up with the Kindle 4
So.
I bought the Kindle 4 back in October. Over the past two months, I've gotten it replaced three separate times, each time with the same screen issue that made it completely unusable. Has anybody else had this issue? It's really upsetting me, and people (both friends and customer service people) keep insinuating that it's my fault somehow, but I haven't hurt it. I've kept it in its own little pocket in my bag, it hasn't gotten wet, and I haven't dropped it. Am I completely alone? |

Could you define "screen issue" ? Just curious.

You need to be more specific on the screen issue. I have the Kindle 4 as well, never had an issue. |

Is something else in your bag hitting it? Just because it has its own pocket doesn't necessarily mean it won't get damaged in there. I don't think it takes much pressure to burst the eink bubbles and you wouldn't necessarily see physical damage (like a crack or scar) on the screen. |

The only way I'd ever put my Kindle inside a bag is to make sure it's inside its standard leather cover and then inside a padded neoprene sleeve, zipped shut.

Seriously?? I carry around my kindle in my purse, inside it's cover of course, and I have not had problems with my k2 or my new Touch for the last two years. Is all that protection really necessary, or are you over-protective??

Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it won't happen to someone else. I've read a few reports where screens have cracked because of the above scenario. Another instance happened when an ereader without a cover was placed inside a padded neoprene sleeve and then into a book bag. Protected? No, because the corner of a book pushed into the sleeve and cracked the screen. |

Have you been using a good case for your K4 or have you been putting it in your bag naked? If naked, then yes, it is 100% your fault. If not naked, you either need a better case or where you are putting it is where other stuff is causing enough pressure to break the screen. With a good case, that's a lot of pressure and you should sort out what you carry in your bag.

On my first Kindle & my first Nook I had extended warranties. My old readers will be long gone before I could use up the warranty. (I gift mine to others when I get a new one). I'm not saying it is a bad idea to get insurance if you carry your reader in a purse or book bag without proper protection (more than a simple cover). And I'm not saying something could never happen. But insurance does bet it won't, and most of us are glad we have it if we need it. So it is a personal decision whether to get it or not. |

On the K4 I highly recommend the Marware Eco-Flip as a case. It has extra padding and the straps keep the cover off the screen so it's protects really well.
I still wouldn't put any Kindle in with a bunch of books. As for in your purse it depends on the type of purse and what you carrying in yours. |

If the same thing has happened three times in two months there is probably a reason for it. I have no idea what it might be, but I don know that I've not heard of it happening to others.
What EXACTLY is the issue? |

I have to say.... I really dislike it when someone signs up to a forum to make a statement like this, and then doesn't come back with additional details.
