Poket edge Initializing & 3 dots - Froxen

Hello All,

This is my first tablet, and it has been working for about 2 weeks now, but this afternoon it looked up while booting up. No updates just as it came from the box. It gets to the 3rd dot on the right side and the left side flashes and finally stays showing
Pocket
eDGe

Initialing…

Can anyone help?
Thanks

Ouch!

First thing to try, if you haven't already, is sticking a straightened paperclip in the reset hole and pushing gently but firmly.

Is the unit fully charged?

I hope you can get it back to full working order!!

Oh, and welcome to the forum!!

Hi Filark,
I have tried the paperclip and it did reset but it goes right back to the same spot, and locks up? It is also fully charged. I let it run the battery down last night, just to try a new situation. Will trying to load/reload the original or the bata software help?

Thanks for your help,
Brew

I don't know whether installing either software will help. Do you know, or can you tell, which version you have? You said you didn't change it, so I am guessing Dingo, but that is not guaranteed. If you have Badger you might try upgrading to Dingo. Other than that, I would think you would be better off getting unstuck before attempting any changes.

Did running the battery down do anything for you?

Anybody else have any suggestions??

I truly have no idea what software I am running, is it very difficult to up-date? I did let the battery run down, but had to fully charge it to try and do anything with it again, and it went to the same stopping point, 3 dots and the tablet side showing Initializing.
Thanks for all your help.

I'm not sure if Entourage put a recovery partition on the eDGE, but perhaps another forum user might know.

If not, you have two options. You can either download the original Dingo Release and re-install it:

http://www.ethanphoenix.com/entourag...ate.golden.zip

OR you can download the Ermine Update and try installing it instead:

http://dustyfeet.com/edge/p-update.zip.ermine-0.9.zip

I have attached two procedures. The first explains how to downgrade from Ermine to Dingo but you should be able to use it to just install the original Dingo. The other explains how to install the Ermine update. Good luck.

Thank you both for the help,
I will try and reload the original and see how things go, depending on what happens maybe I’ll try and update to one of the others later.
Thanks so much for the help,

Good morning, Brew!

Do you remember the last thing you did before your PE locked up? Or what programs you were running? That info might help us troubleshoot your problem.

Hi Filark,
The last properly working program was Sudoku, Saturday afternoon 10/22, I turned power on and tried to bring up the PE Calendar on Monday 10/24 and that’s when it loaded the right side but the tablet stayed with the Initializing screen. It stayed that way for about 10 minutes and I cycled the power. On powering back up it would not go past the 3 dots on the right side and Initializing message on the tablet side.
Thanks Again for helping.

Entourage did not put a recovery partition on this device that is like the normal android recovery partitions. They did put on a maintenance kernel, which as far as a normal user is concerned, is only used to flash new firmware by pushing the Menu + Rotate buttons during boot.

Have you read this thread? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=135225 Someone else with a similar problem, eventually solved. Nothing you did sounds wrong to me. I sure hope you can get it working again.

Let us know!

Hi All,
Thank you all for the help you’ve given me. It looks like my best bet at this time may be to reload the OS. What are your thoughts on the reload? Original or a new update? The memor stick any size work best?

The best thing would be to use the PE Golden update.zip - make sure you get the correct one - as this is a full system replacement and so puts your PE in a known state.

Most memory sticks 4 GB or less will work - read the threads about updating for the things you need to do and be careful.

Nikkie do you think this partition can be replaced with proper recovery one?

I'm not sure exactly what the proper recovery portion is supposed to do, other than being mounted and available in the OS. I've recently picked up 3 other Android phones that I'm going to install Clockwork Mod on over the next few days. I hope to glean more understanding of how things work from that experience. If nothing else, I can look at what the other devices actually put on those partitions.

I suspect the reason Entourage didn't use a regular update.zip file is they had to customize it to work with ubifs since all of the other android devices I'm seeing use JFFS. So the level of difficulty of turning this device into a form that will work with standard recovery is as yet unclear to me.
