Punctuation problems

I had punctuation problems this evening with Calibre. It'd remove or confuse much of the punctuation in documents.

This was because Calibre was not guessing correctly the encoding of the html file. It was ansi. After reading several threads I tried several things, what I expected to work was changing the html2zip configuration to use ansi but it didn't.

I'm posting because I found a rather elegant and helpful way around it.

Open up the html in notepad++. On the encoding menu select whatever encoding you need to in order to see the punctuation properly (for me notepad++ had already selected ansi which was correct), on the same menu select convert to utf-8. Save the file and use that in Calibre. For me that got around any problems.
